Thinking about selling '06 STR
Folks, I'm thinking about selling my '06 STR. It's been a great car, but I have my eye on a sweet looking XF. My car is white/tan. It's loaded, including NAV, rear entertainment, ipod integration, sat radio. It has 48K miles. I'm the second owner and it's always been a FL car. Accident free and overall very clean. I put new tires on it last week (should have waited a little longer and saved the $'s).
Anyway, KBB puts the value around $22K. Does this sound like the right price for a private sale? I've seen them anywhere from $16K to $25K in Autotrader.
Your input is appreciated!

You do have to most desirable options of NAV, ipod integration and rear entertainment...The demand is just extemely low on this car...Do you have time to sell it or do you want to sell it quickly? If you have time, try $22K progressively bring the price down over time...In my honest opinion, I think $16K is the going rate on the car...

I agree. I would keep it. You won't get what you want for it due to the microscopic demand, and I believe the reliability factor is higher for your STR compared to an XF. If it were mine, I would keep the STR, especially as trouble-free as it has apparently been for you....
I like the S-type styling a lot better than the XF. The S-type styling still looks good today.
That said, I'll buy it for 16k! lol.

Sorry for the lack of reply here... I took some time off and then ran into a problem with my car. I took it to the dealer Thursday because I heard a strange rattle when it started. I have never heard it before and I had just had my oil changed so I was concerned it might be related.
It turned out to be a VDT guide leak. Not sure what a VDT is, but it had a problem. I was told they have to remove the top and the front of the motor for this repair and that it would cost $3,800!
My Jaguar warranty expired just two weeks ago so I asked for some help. Jaguar agreed to pay for all of the parts and it should be done early next week. I'm very happy they will assist!
I guess my car wasn't happy with me talking of selling... LOL
Anyway, I plan to list is shortly but I'm not in a real big hurry to sell with my new investment in it :-)
Thanks for your input. I'll not let it go for less than this car is worth. I've driven a lot of cars over the years, but nothing even comes close to this one!

CACLOSS:
I also own a white 2006 STR with only 41,000 miles.I just checked Kelly Blue Book and for a private owner in excellent condition it states $21,088.Retail is over $23,000.I've seen 06 X-Types with
over 60K going $16,000.I don't know who'd pay that for an X Type, but I believe I saw it in the Auto Shopper some weeks ago.
I'll keep my STR until I die before I sold it for less than $20,000.Everyone that sees these cars think they're beautiful. Not for nothing, but there's a lot of young people out there that really love these cars.My son is 22 and he's brought my car to a few car meets where these young guys and girls have done a bunch of work to their cars and more people crowd around the STR than most of the others. When he starts it up with the magna flows on it and the supercharger whining they're amazed that it's a Jaguar.A few of them have expressed interest in buying it if I decided to sell it.Most are in their early 20s.So,the point is put it up for sale if you want to,but don't settle for anything less than what you really will be happy getting for it or else you'll be regretting it for a long time.I still think about some of the cars I had years ago and think Damn I should have kept that car or I should have sold it for more.So take some time and think before you leap and be happy with your decision whatever you do.

Maybe the VVT hydraulic controller? Big repair that.
The earlier STR engines deleted that system. I guess now I'm glad.
How many miles are on your car?

If the VVT goes at 48K that's pretty dissapointing.
Let us know if that was the issue.
The labor is the big charge on this one. They should cover that as well.

She's running great now. They gave me a new XF as a loaner... very nice! But there is no way I would consider a trade-in of this baby :-)
