Default Transmission fault!

I got a message in my 2000 Jaguar S-type 4.0 saying transmission fault. I took it to auto zone for a free test and they said "The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for pressure control solenoid C". I have two bad ignition coils that I have to replace but I didn't get around to it yet. Could that be causing the trans fault? Please help. They said a possibility could be low trans fluid. Would it be pricey to have some put in?

It is probably 2 seperate issues.

If you can get an exact code it would be helpful.

Yes. I'ts not as powerful as it normally is. When I turn the car on this fault comes up in about 5 minutes of driving everytime since it started. Before it does come up the car drives fine. Other than the mild shuddering I get from the two bad ignition coils that I haven't replaced yet. Could the two bad ignition coils be the cause of this pressure control problem? I have been driving fora while on bad coils.. Would replacing a pressure control solenoid be expensive?

im not sure if thesolenoids are a repairable item on your transmission. you will have to check with a shop in your area. the 2 bad coils will cause alot of problems, but shouldn't cause transmission problems. depending on how long you have been riding on those coils you may want to anticipate a new catalytic converter. misfires feed raw fuel into the exhaust stream and make that catalyst overheat and crack.

So if the solenoids are bad, can they be fixed or replaced? Is there something else that could be causing the problem in the solenoid? Is this a common issue that doesn't cost much to repair or am I screwed??[X(]

You probably need to replace the valve body. Should'nt be too expesive if you shop around.

It's a Ford transmission that is very common, i dont know the model # of the top of my head.

the solenoid pack can be replaced as a unit. however im not sure if you will find a place that will warranty that repair. i haven't had such a problem yet. transmission repairs are most often risky jobs. most places rebuild or replace.

I think I'm gonna be sick.[sm=smiley11.gif]I guess I'll take it to the shop and see what they say the problem is. I also noticed that after driving it for about 15 minutes with the Trans fault light on, when I put it in park and then back in drive it jerks into drive. Normally it would just feel like it drops two inches. (You guys know what I'm talking about.) What's up with that?

Mine goes into drive very hard too. I think in my case when I put it into drive the idle jumps up to compensate for it going into gear and the in gear idle is just too high. Also when I take it out of gear the R's jump up before they go back to normal. I think it is the idle dashpot. The dealer refuses to recognize that there is a problem. Also it down shifts into first very late, almost when I am stopped causing the car to jump just before coming to a complete stop. It's very annoying. Another problem that they refuse to recognize. No fault codes, No problem!!

They are usless, I'm going to take it to another dealer and I suspect that they will get these issues solved. The only thing that my dealer did was a hard reset of the of the ecm and the tcm and now instead of a slight bog when I take off I have all of these other issues now.

Can someone tell me a couple of things:

1 -Where is the solenoid pack located? Do I need to open up the tranny to get to it or does it sit outside the tranny?
2 - Is this a job any good mechanic can handle?

I'm posting my experience with hope it will help someone. I have a 2002 S Type with 129K miles. I've had it a little over a year. Most of my miles are in town. Recently I took it out on the road and was opening up the throttle when possible. I was cruising about 80 mph and decided to decelerate. When I was down around 60 I gave it some gas and it wouldn't go into gear. I revved a few times and it popped in. About 120 miles later, in town, it got lost between gears and then landed into gear with a thud. The display read "Transmission Fault" and the check engine light came on. I immediately took it to an independent transmission shop that I've used since the 90s for a variety of cars. They read the code and it had something to do with a solenoid. They asked when the transmission had been serviced. I had a CARFAX from when I bought the vehicle, and it showed the transmission had been replaced under warranty about 80K miles ago. No other service had been recorded. They suggested new fluid and filter. I gave it to them on Friday and they opened it up and let it drain over the weekend. The following Monday they put in the new filter and re-filled the transmission. I picked it up the next day. That was about 500 miles ago. The transmission shifts exactly as it should and there have been no further messages or lights. They charged $90 to diagnose and $342 for parts and labor. They suggested service every 30K miles.

The ZF 6HP26 fitted to the S-Type does not require servicing until at least 50.000 to 60.000 miles. You can certainly perform the service more often, but that should not be necessary.
