Thumbs up Transponder keys.

Hello .Just thought i would pass on this information.
I have just purchased my 2006 Jaguar S Type and found one of the keys to be not working correctly,Thinking it might be the battery i looked in my hand book on how to open and replace the battery. When i opened the fob i found the micro switches on the cicuit board to be faulty looked as if something had leaked inside i did replace battery but still nothing.Thinking i may have to purchase a new one at £150 from jaguar dealer i thought i would have a browse on Ebay and came across a guy not far from me in Alfreton that advertised he would replace the switches, clean ,test, and replace the battery for less than a £10 .I contacted the Gentleman and he said that as i was close i could call at his house instead of posting and it usually took about 10 to 15 mins to repair .I arrived at his house and sat down and he informed me he would have a look and in 10 mins he came back in the room with the circuit board tested ,New Switches .Battery etc and said would i try it .It works as new and i cannot believe that this was acheived for £10 so if anyone out there needs their transponder key repaired i suggest that he give this Gentleman a try.His name is Neil and his name on ebay is fingaz( 966) Regards.Alan55

Took your advice 'cos one of my two '99 XKR fobs doesn't work (has never worked and I feel the need for a spare). Had a very nice email back from him to the effect that the particular key fob I have (LJA-2610BA 433.92MHz) is difficult to repair as it has carbon pads on the rubber buttons rather than micro-switches. It can be done but the repair kits are becoming hard to come by and it's hit-or-miss if they work or not. He'd be happy to have a look, but can't guarantee a fix.

He also warned me to be careful to only buy key fobs with exactly the same code 'cos even seemingly-minor variants (BB, BC etc) won't work with my particular car. I had read similar cautions in other posts on the forum, but it was telling that he volunteered the information.

Top person to deal with - I heartily recommend him.

Best wishes, Colin
