What Colour on my wheels
Not a fan of blacking out factory/oem wheels, in most cases ends up looking cheap. It always leaves me with the impression of the owner couldn't afford that aftermarket set of wheels he really wanted, so he chose to paint his stock rollers.
I like the look when someone paints their wheels a different color than factory. These days a lot of car makers make really great rims so why pick up a set of aftermarket? Not everyone wants a set of 20s that cost 5k.
When I purchased my STR I checked the tyre depth which was 5mm front and back but failed to check the make. They are ACCELERA very cheap budget tyres. Don't go out when its wet as you will slide all over the place!!!!!! a friend said. So now looking for a set of (UK) Dunlop Sport Max or Pirelli P Zero Rosso. I always think its good to know that you have a good set of quality shoes.
I'm with the gun metal gray also. IMHO, that color would look good on your car. But (maybe) not too dark..

I would go with a silver/graphite color (something darker than just silver, but not too dark given those wheels with thin spokes would disappear).
I had a set of Carlsson wheels on my old Mercedes powdercoated "Stardust Silver" and that would be a perfect color for you - somewhere in between of silver and graphite. I do not recall which manufacturer of powdercoat offered that color, but the shop I used said they were the leading manufacturers of powdercoat.

If you have your heart set on refurbishing, my suggestion is to go darker to tie-in your windows or chrome to tie-in your exhaust and other chrome bits.
If it were me, I'd look more closely into other options. I like these (Click Here). My concern is that they may be heavier than your OEM/stock wheels though.
I could not agree with you more Michael Star.
The Continental DW tires are great (Click Here) and read posts 3-8.
FYI: Many tire retailers will push the Continental DWS tire (an all season tire) which is a good tire too but I have not experienced them first-hand.

I plan to get Continental DWS for my S-type.I have used them on my Subaru Outback and Subaru Legacy and was impressed by low noise, long wear and grip in wet and light snow.Dry grip was more than adequate for the Subarus.
Another vote for gunmetal silver/grey. I painted my Rover wheels that color with some hammerite Rustoelum rattle cans and it came out quite nice.
As for tires, I had the Conti ExtremeContact DWS on my SAAB and I was not all that impressed with the tire life. Noise and handling were quite good though.
For the STR - General Grabber UHP's on the back hook up and stick like glue.

True story.
When I had my shop powder coating one of my freinds built a bike. It was a gixxer 1000. He put 15:1 to comp pistons, new rods, ect. Built to run on e85.
I worked out a deal, he paid me a little and in return we put my shops stickers all over the bike , and he would wear my shirt when he was at the track. I told him we would powder coat his bike any color he wanted that it just needed to be flashy so it would grab peoples attention.
The color he lands on is fluorescent pink. So I powdercoated his entire bike pink. Wheels, frame, engine covers, all the accy. Every inch of it pink.
Now powder coating is awesome in that there is no traditional over spray to whipe down. On the down side, it covered my whole shop in pink powder.
We went out to lunch after shooting his frame. I'm at the BK counter when the kid behind register asks me "sir, do my eyes deceive me or are you a slight shade of pink?"
I had to explained that yes I was covered in pink powder. When its 100 degreese out and you have a huge oven running in the shop all the time you sweat, then when you spray the powder it sticks like crazy to your sweaty parts.
I used to give him hell for choosing pink, he was on the fence between that and a candy red over a chrome base coat that looked super good. Truth be told though the pink was a super attention getter. His bike stood out like crazy. Too bad I was pretty much done coating by the time he got it all back together so it never even got the chance to help me.
I'm going to look around for photos.
