Thanks. I still enjoy driving it from time to time. In it's day it was damn fast and it still passes cars on a two lane quite nicely. It is still the car with the most comforable seats I've ever owned.

Kudos Bob, the car looks to be in great nick.

Question, why do the front left light surrounds look to be drilled out, is this part of some air system?

Thanks. Everyone asks that one. I installed a pre/post lubing system along with a remote mount oil filter. The battery got moved to the trunk where Maserati finally did as well. So lot of equipment was either removed, relocated or added. I added an oil cooler and that ended up directly behind the RH headlamp. It was about the only spot available so that's what the holes are all about.

You know, I may just go out and buy one and make it a project car. I loved the interior of that car....Bob, how hard is it to get parts for it?

That's a complicated question. A lot of the mechanical parts for the earlier cars 84-86 are readily available because they imported quite a few and so many have been parted out. The cars changed in 87-90 here. In Europe they change quite a bit after that. Maserait is actively working at pulling all support for these cars. Interior stuff on the used market is very difficult because these interiors were very fragile and any parted out car most likely has no decent interior parts. The interior material is availble but it's expensive and as you remember the interiors in these cars are not simple. Get a real good one to start. That's not so easy but if you keep looking for a couple of years you'll find one. Try reading over at Biturbozentrum on Yahoo Groups. There are quite a number of us nuts over there.

Yeah, the 1 series has been out in the UK for a year or three, I'm surprised they bothered as they already produce the Mini.

Most Bmw drivers are <deleted>. Explains the fascination they have for your rear end!!!!

Now see striker, you made me go and edit your post. That kind of 'statement' isn't allowed here. Comeon, we're jag owners, we're supposed to have some tact.

My stepson has a 2002 5 series and drives mostly like an old lady (apologies to all old ladies on this forum). I'm far older than he is and drive a bit more "spirited" in my 2006 3.0.

BMW drivers are no different from Audi, Mercedes or Jaguar drivers. Anyone who says different is just being a silly sod. Please, we aren`t children here. I`ve owned BMWs, Mercedes, Audis and Jags. I didn`t evolve or de-evolve based on the car that I was driving.

I'm afraid experience just doesn't bear that out, I've NEVER been cut up by a Jag or a Merc, but have on multiple occasions by BMW and recently Audi's. Now of course they aren't the only people who've cut me up, the ricer brigade are also guilty of such behaviour and I don't know about the US, but in the UK you are very likely to find small delivery vans like the Ford Transit doing the same thing - white van man they're known as and they have a worse rep than BMW drivers.

YOU may not behave in the way this thread accuses BMW drivers of behaving, but a significant number of them do. That's the problem with generalisations, it easy to tarnish an entire demographic, but it really is true out of my 25 years of driving there's no doubt that BMW's have cut me up or I've seen cut up the guy in front more often than any other marque.

I don`t know Mike. I spent 17 years in Southern California where 90% of all the world`s BMWs reside (exageration, I know). BMW drivers were no different from the rest of the pack.

Oh that just because they fit the profile of a So. California driver so well. I mean who would notice a difference? Only the No. California drivers were polite and knew how to drive. I lived there for 25 years.

See how dumb this gets.

Close the thread or pull the BMW out of the title. It's like red meat.

But seriously the 1 series was made for the younger crowd. Having owned an M3 and 5 I like her little 1 it fits alot less clutter and it's easy to drive

Speaking as a health care provider; I'm beginning to see a pattern linking the "Rock Hard" suspension of a BMW and BMW drivers rushing home to remedy cases of red hot "Pyles"? I'll require 25 mil to conduct a double blind study if anyone cares enough...?

I think the 1 is the size of what the current 3 series used to be. Over the years it seems cars get bigger and carmakers introduce a newer smaller model to fill in the void left. Another example is the Honda Civic. It seems the current model is the size of what the Accord used to be. Back in the 80's and 90's Civics used to get over 40 mpg because they were really small. Now they get maybe low 30's.
