I found some Duplicolor touch up paint (in the little tube with the brush/pen applicator) that matches the stock silver wheel color almost exactly. It is a GM paint called "Tarnished Silver" - I took a gamble and bought it and it works great for those little chips or flakes. About $5.00 at Advance Auto Parts.

 

Unfortunately, I have some pretty major rash on two sets that need to be done, so I actaully need the correct color in a spray can.

 

yep sounds like you need more than touch up.

if you get a local body shop to mix the paint, you can use a Preval mini-sprayer to apply it, if you don't have an HPLV air paint sprayer.

Wurth products silver wheel paint & GL clear Laquer Spray work very well for touch up repairs including rash repairs.

I did search for zeus wheel color and never found the name or number for the correct color. I know of the Wurth products, but read those were for most German applications - never saw anything stating they match '03 British wheels. Even your own article from late last year does not mention the actual color, just technique. There are plenty technique articles on many sites.

Please send me in the right direction of the apparent numerous threads I missed discussing the stock STR Zeus color.

 

I have the Vulcan style and I beleive they are the same color as the Zeus.

The Wurth silver matches perfectly.

 

Check with any of your local car dealerships. Many have outside wheel refinishers come in weekly to repair wheels on customers' cars and for cars in used inventories.

I had 3 badly scratched wheels repaired after an accident for $75 each. A mobile shop took 3 hours to make them look like new. They use small air grinders to sand out the scratches and they use templates to mask off for painting. They'll do a little bondo work for small holes. All repairs are done with the tires and wheels on the car.

They "hypercoat" talked about is actually a black/silver paint mixture with a clearcoat lacquer over the top.

If you don't have any scratches to repair, just clean your wheels, seal up the pits, sand them with fine sandpaper and paint'em.

Like it was said above, Duplicolor has a silver wheel paint. You can also get an argent paint stock Item #10001Z from Eastwood.com and finish them with a clearcoat.

If you haven't done something like this before you might want to follow Bamaman's advice here. When I did mine I found it a bit tricky to not end up painting the entire GD wheel. If you want to paint the wheels a different color (the BMW color looks nice!) then take the car or tires and wheels to a wheel refinishing place as the tires should come off the rims. A pro has everything plus experience to do spot repairs quickly. But it's possibly to do with decent results using the Wurth products plus various grades of sand paper etc. TAKE THE WHEEL OFF THE CAR.

 

The wheels on my '06 S-Type were looking a little bad...curb rash from previous owner and some black spots that wouldn't come out. I had them grinded and repainted last week. They're brighter and noticeably better to me, anyway. Think they turned out pretty good.

Having had the opportunity to see Chris's chrome wheels in person, I gotta say they look really good on his car. And I'm not much of a chrome fan at all. With his paint color, they are not super flashy, fit nicely with the overall look.
