Default Wheels

Hello again:

I was thinking to exchange the wheels from my 2006 S Type 3.0 with my 2003 S Type V8. They both have 17 inch wheels so I presume that would be an easy switch.

The 2006 has Antares 15 spoke wheels and the 2003 has 6 double spoke wheels, not sure of what they are called. I also thought of getting chrome remanufactured wheels Antares wheels from L.A. Tire and Wheel. Does anybody have any thoughts on chrome or any photos of chrome wheels on their S Type.

I attached photos of the wheels. Of course if I swapped them, I would have to have the Antares refinished as they are definitely blemished.

Thanks in advance!

Yes I got my alloy rims chromed and yes I used LA Tire and Wheel as they had a trade in program which helped with the cost.

Here is the rim.

Here is a side view of the car. Different style of rims than yours but they are both alloy rims.

When I sent my rims to LA Tire and Wheel they said 3 out of the 4 were bent. This cost me some extra money as their program is a swap and upgrade and assumes your rims are usable. Note you won't know what the condition is until you send in your old rims. I assumed they were undamaged as I had no vibration or any other symptom of bent rims. So were they bent? Can't really say but I did pay for 3 of them to be fixed.

Next I thought they did a great job on the chrome finish and liked it a lot. BUT you need to understand that chrome and the alloy wheel are made of two different metals with differing expansion ratios due to heat and cold. What this means is over time the chrome will start to crack and separate from the alloy. Again this will happen with time. No way around it.

After about 5+ years I started to get cracks in the corners and crevices in the wheel. Not too bad and not really visible in the above pictures. So depending on how picky you are that may not bother you?

What I learned is I won't chrome an alloy rim ever again. I would suggest you check out powder coating? It's getting better every day and they have a surprisingly close chrome finish and again that might be what your looking for? My current 2014 XJR has black rims and I have had them re-powder coated once already and it looks like factory.

BIG fan of LA Wheel and Tire. I’ve used them on all three of my cars.
