Default Winter chains on 245s

The Jag manual says no winter chains on the car. WTH? Surely you can run chains on this car, the clearances on the back don't seem extreme.

I went up to 245 from 235 (17" stock wheels) and don't see a problem. Why am I asking? I recently moved and my commute takes me over a 1000ft mountain pass from sea level. Wet snow shuts this highway down once in a while.

I'm not about to just go pop a grand on wheels and dedicated snowies. $40-$50 chains for the once in a blue moon snowfall seem appropriate.

Jaguar has a snow traction system available for its current models. You may want to check with your dealer for S-Type applications. The XF system might work though.

Jag's spike spiders cost more than snow tires sadly.

Did some looking around and decided I'll try and find a set of these:
