Non metallic area on XF windscreen?
Hi
I have an electronic tag for use on the Severn Bridge. I know that I'm supposed to locate it in the area of the windscreen that is non-metallic. This is supposed to be the area with the black dots. However, on the XF, that area is very narrow around the edge of the windscreen and around the rear view mirror. The tag is about the size of mobile phone so would not fit in those areas.
Has anyone used the TAG on the Severn bridge with an XF, or does anyone know if there are any other areas on the windscreen that I can use?
At the moment, I'm just going to wind my window down and hold it outside the car as I approach the toll.

May be a silly question, but have you tried just putting it near the top middle of the windscreen. In the US they have electronic tag systems like EZ Pass which is just an active RFID system, prob like the Severn I'd guess. I have that on the windscreen of my jag and it works perfectly. So I don't think the jag windscreens shield rf signals

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to make sure where to place the TAG as if it didn't work, I would have had a queue of 20+ cars behind me at least with no way of getting out of the queue!
So, I called Jaguar UK and they advised trying it just under the rear view mirror. The windscreens are actually metallic so they can block the signals. The part of windscreens that are not metallic usually have black dots on them. In my wife's VW that is quite a big area, but in the Jaguar, its a very narrow strip around the windscreen and mirror.
I noticed that there is a small black area to the left and right of the rear view mirror - it's not black dots, just plain black. I decided to try that, and if all else fails I'll just hold the tag outside the car. It worked though. I held the tag up at the top of the windscreen just to the right of the mirror and the barrier opened.
Hope this helps someone else...

I have my EZ Pass (same technology) just on the plain glass area on the passenger side and it works perfectly every time. So I don't think there is any significant blocking in the windscreen
Not sure about the solid black bit, but the black dots are just to fade from full screen to the edges - the glass and materials underneath are identical. The black dots are just a surface effect. I think the solid black is the same - to make it easier to see in the rear view mirror
So my guidance is just to put it on and see - I think it will work fine
