Default HELP: Problem with downshifting when flooring the gas pedal.

Hi Everyone. My brother just bought a 2010 XFR just like mine and I took it for a test drive. The car drives great but I noticed one odd thing.

If I am in Drive going around 50 MPH and I mash the gas pedal quickly to the floor the car take forever to downshift and start pulling hard. By takes forever I mean I can count slowly to 3 or 4.

I noticed that if I lean into the throttle slowly rather than mash the pedal right to the floor it downshifts fine.

Also if I put it in sport "S" the problem goes away. I mash the pedal down fast and it downshifts right away and pulls hard.

Thanks!

The Kickdown switch on the back of the go pedal might be acting up.
If it is I don't know how to fix it but I understand it's not a big or expensive job to replace it with a new one.

When the box finally downshifted, did it also downshift harshly?

I had the same thing, a very rapid application of throttle and it was as if the gearbox got "stuck", the car would lug along for several seconds and then downshift with a harsh change. I very rarely mashed the throttle so it wasn't much of an issue and it didn't happen every time (10%?)

Anyway, 2,000 miles ago, I took my car to a ZF authorised partner (not a Jaguar dealer) for a gearbox service. As well as the rarely encountered issue above, I also had the well known "lurch"; when slowing gently to a stop, the box would lurch into 1st at about 3mph with what felt like a slight bump from behind.

They did the usual fluid and filter change and reset the adaptive thingies and I'm delighted with the results, the lurch is completely gone, I've not got the "stuck gear" again and even better the gear changes, which I didn't think needed to be any better, are super smooth now. Drives "as new".

Check there is such a switch as commonly there isn't any more! Instead, the PCM figures out what to do and at most there's a dummy thing to "feel" right.

Yep, a service on the trans is where I would start, you don't have to do Jag for the service, but make sure who ever does it can upload any updates it might need.
