Good catch on the tip diameter I hadn't noticed that. I haven't seen anybody calling out their preferred tips by name on the mod threads - any front runners ? And are the flaps in the Varex either open or closed only ? I read they are working on a VM05 module which is RPM based but it's not shipping yet....

I think any decent quality stainless steel tips will do, I haven't seen anyone mention a certain brand either. You have to press the button for about 2 secs for the flap to fully open or close. You can press for a shorter period to open or close the flap slightly, its not fine tuned though, so you won't be able to open it just the right amount without actually looking at the flap through the exhaust.

I tried keeping the flap open at the halfway position between fully open and fully closed, but it didn't sound good. I could hear the flap rattling due to the exhaust pressure, so I keep it either fully closed or fully open. Attaching a few pics so you can see how the VMK7-250 tips look.

Actually the non-staggered tips don't stick out of the valence as much as I had feared and the stock tips on my XFR are 3" so having watched your video again and again (and again) of the open and closed runs, I'm trying really really really hard not to reach for my wallet. I will probably lose the fight...

I noticed on the Varex installation instructions they state in bold red text not to hard wire the controller but to use the cigar/power socket as it may cause damage to the controller and invalidates the warranty. I'd plan to tap into a fuse with fuse protection so I really don't see how that's any more dangerous to the controller - as long as the fuse was an "ignition on" only so not continuously powering the controller. Any thoughts ?

How do you like having a key fob for the open/closed switch? I think I'd rather have it wired in with the Dynamic button.

Tapping into a 10a or 15a "ignition on" fuse would result in no issues at all. That's what the others on this forum did I believe.

It's a minor inconvenience really, I just leave that remote in the center console. Routing it to the Dynamic button would make the exhaust look like a factory setup, but I personally would not want to deal with the complexity of that installation. It would be really cool to see someone do it.

VERY nice. I settled for Mina and will have them installed next week.

What is "drone", anyway? I thought they were made by DJI and flew and took videos!

I'm sitting here looking at them in my Shopping Cart. I just can't walk away at the moment and I'm sure before nightfall I'll have stabbed the Submit Order button.....I may need an intervention soon.

Haha I have that flying drone from DJI, it's an awesome toy. The exhaust drone I was mentioning in the thread is that continuous noise you get inside the car from an aftermarket exhaust. It's usually noticeable when cruising on a highway at a constant RPM.

I feel you, I do that too when I am wasting money on things I don't NEED, but gotta HAVE! I have no regrets from getting this exhaust, I can't say that about all my other "tempted" purchases.

Well after some issues with "when it says in stock it may be the computer lying..." I managed to source one of each from two different shops, turned up on the same Fedex van the same day and are now at my shop waiting for them to fab the pipe extension from the stock to the Varex. Thanks for the tips and tricks - hopefully the 2010 XFR doesn't have any extra surprises...

Glad everything worked out! Can't wait to see the setup on your car, be sure to record some videos for us. Also, note that the the fuse tap kit i mentioned in my OP is an "ATO" regular fuse and it does not work for the XF. I believe ours is a "Mini" fuse.

I truly believe a louder exhaust is a contribution to pedestrian safety

Sounds Nice. Maybe 15 hp or more gain I am guessing with this new exhaust over the stock exhaust. Is it noticeable ?

Dear Jaguar, please consider fitting the Varex active exhaust to future XFR models. Or your own active exhaust button on the dash. Thank you.
