No matter how careful I am about where I park, someone invariably opens their door into my doors or front bumper. I just don't understand it. They're not big dings just little ones. Give me a break!

Happens so often my insurance company (in Abu Dhabi) has insisted on third party only.....
I try to park in the 45' lined spaces as they are bigger, but the buggers still nobble me!
First, I got a parking lot ding on the right rear passenger door right behind the driver's door. Now, every time I walk up to the car the only thing I see is the ding! I can't appreciate the beauty of the car because that's all I see.
Second, my solution was to buy a 20 year old XJ as a grocery getter (Jeep Cherokee XJ). Nowthe Jag stays in the garage most of the winter and whenever I have to go to a parking lot with tight spaces and lots of inconsiderate *******s. Since I got the Jeep it has been hit in the parking lot twice! But who cares? It's 20 years old and looks better with more bumps and scrapes on it.
I've been asking around about paintless dent removal but never thought to go to the dealer and ask who does their work. Will go there tomorrow to ask.
Park your car at a bit of an angle, preferably crossing a line at the edge of the parking bay. As long as the car park has plenty of spaces, other cars always look for a better spot, so definitely not to be used in a crowded car park. Works a treat.

I just sanded down a perfectly great paint job on my Spit6. It had a dent on the bubble right on the front. don't know how I missed it, but I saw it every time I walked in the garage.
Waiting on warm weather to re spray. If you look hard, it's right on the front on the right side.
Now, if they ever hit the red one, I'll be going to jail. 5 years and big $$$$$ to do that one.
Seeing this thread gets me all pissed off again. A couple months ago a lifted truck parked nex to my wife's X-type Estate. The driver's door was pristine, (But the car has many door dings on the passender side.)
The bottom of the truck door was higher than the door guard, so the truck door edge hit at just the right angle and distance to put a 4" wide 3" tall, about 1/8 to 1/4: deep dent in the door. The door left a lot of white paint on the driver's door. (Dent pulling shop said it was too much damage to pull out using the dentless removal technique. Quoted $800 to $1,000 to repair the dent and repaint the door. Now I am keeping my eye out for a complete same color door to swap onto the car.
Kicker is, We think it is a friend of my wife who did it. (They have a white truck that is lifted and wife says the friend parked next to her one night several days before I noticed the dent. )
I consider my X-type a disposable winter driver, so I have come to terms with the damage. If this had happened to my STR or XK8 I really would have been pissed and be out for blood.
Currently they usually point fore/aft, so you might need a second, side-facing, cam to catch your door dingers.
I've put dashcams in all my cars because young inattentive/texting drivers keep running into & totaling them and then lying about it.
In spite of having a perfect driving record and road-course race driver training & experience, I've had three cars totaled this way in the past 3 years.
Dashcams are so cheap, you control whether anyone else sees the footage, and the potential liability so great if you can't prove your case that that I consider them to be a no-brainer anymore.
While I haven't caught (or been subject to) any Jaguar door dingers, we did get several nice images for the police of the deranged homeless guy who tried to confront my wife one morning in front of her church and another sobering video of our daughter's high-speed deer strike in her Volvo wagon last fall.
Aggravating for sure but if you drive it, it's going to happen. Not too long ago I took mine to a paintless dent removal guy and had all the dings removed (had never been done before and had about 5-6 dings). It wasn't cheap ; about $75-90 per ding depending on size and location, but they did a great job and it looks like new ; worth it in my opinion. I don't know how they do it but I can no longer tell that the dings were there.
