That has the 6HP26 transmission, right? How's the powertrain overall? I haven't seen many people with their X100's (-R or -8) up that close to 200k. I hope to take mine optimistically to 160-200k, but I'm figuring I'll probably have to budget for a 5HP24 replace/rebuild at some point.

Thanks John. I think there's at least one other car with more miles than mine. It "can" be done! ;-)

Full disclosure on the powertrain. I believe one of the POs over filled the engine with oil, which foamed and wrecked some bottom end bearings and crankshaft. That happened with 130,000 miles. I swapped in a 50,000 mile engine which now has 117,000 miles on it and is running sweet. No kidding. Some sniggles pop up here and there of course, but I fix them as they come up. The S/C has really only added one major complication: changing the valley hoses was a real PITA!

I also have to be realistic though and believe that at some time I'll have to put a rebuilt trans in her, but right now it's running without fault. I'm going to give it another MERCON servicing within the next 10 or so thousand miles. I have know idea how long the transmission will last.

Shortly after the engine swap, the transmission (6HP26) was serviced with RedLine fluid. It ran quirky at best for 15,000 to 20,000 miles until I "personally" serviced it with MERCON about 25,000 miles ago. I can't determine whether it was the RedLine or that the shop messed up the fluid level. Now and engine and transmission run simply wonderfully.

Good luck! Enjoy the car. DRIVE it.

Thanks for that, scardini1. The 61,000 mile '05 needs a transmission service. The more I dwell on it, the more miles I put on it. From the forum it sounds like Mercron is the way to go.

Used 2005 Jaguar XK8 XK8 for sale in San Diego, CA | EuroMotorWerks | Pre-owned Dealer | San Diego, California
It looks scarily like mine!!!..... and I use it daily to go to work.... although its only 5 miles so not a long haul. Got 59k KLM's on the clock so practically brand new!

Had it for 5 years now, it's also the 2005 model and it's just awesome.... the previous owner had the front grill changed which is a real bonus....

Being in Abu Dhabi (its hot!) I use the Jag dealer for service and repair, but over the years we've come to an agreement that he fits parts that I import from UK because they are so dam expensive here.... it saves me about 60% after courier costs. I've also joined the Jag dealers 'owners feedback' network so my annual service is free...

I've had the usual things go wrong, foot brake limit switch, fuel pump, air cleaner cover (brittle cos it's 40' in the summer), suspension rubbers worn out, brake drum skimming etc... but no (touch wood) really major issues....

So, my advice is to bite the bullet and get it..... its a once in a lifetime find at that price.... and enjoy it while you can!
