Please know that I too, as a member of this camaraderie, share the same feelings.

Mike, I am terribly sorry to hear of your loss. I know you had poured so many hours of labor into this car, some fun hours I am sure, but plenty of those other hours, too. Besides that, it felt to me like you made this car truly yours with the wire wheels, hood louvers and luggage rack. I wish you the best in the path forward. Hopefully, it ends with a check, and more options in your hands than you though possible.

Sorry for your loss. It may serve as a reminder to those who have invested significantly in their cars to have them appraised and insure them to the appraised value.

An incredible loss. Really this happened and that you are alright. I sure would have a talk to who ever is responsible for the sorry 911 and fire department response

What a shame, glad your ok and well done for getting the car to a safe place, poor response from the emergency services. Hope you have better luck with the insurance.

The death of one of our beauties is never pleasant. I am at a loss of words to offer you. I was devastated when I smunched mine into a guard rail last year so I almost feel what you are dealing with.

Guardrail! I thought I was the only one who drives around merrily crashing their XK8 into guardrails.

Best to get back in the saddle asap.

Here's a good replacement candidate for about $10K. This guy regularly sells quality XK8 cars. I can take a look at it if you have an interest.

2003 Jaguar XK8 XK8 | eBay

If you buy it and don't want the Apollo wheels I'll take them as a finder's fee.

Oh, Mike,
After all you've been though, you didn't deserve this.
I feel so badly for you.

I have 2 insurance companies, trying to get out of paying for the car. My collector car insurance, and the insurance from the shop. They picked the car up from the tow yard, and are going to let their forensic mechanics determine why it caught fire. I was told it may take over a month, to get things settled.

If the shop's insurance determines that they did nothing wrong, I am screwed, because they won't repair the siding on my garage, or the car. The collector car insurance won't pay for the garage either way, and I have $1000 deductible on the house insurance. Being on total disability, it is going to take awhile to come up with that kind of money.

Either way, I won't be getting another car, because the car was being used as collateral for paying off some large medical bills, so it has a loan on it. I was also told, when I picked up the car, from the shop, that there was a leaded over patch, in the gas tank, and that the tank was missing the plate, or whatever that keeps it from moving around. I feel if there was that much wrong with the car, it shouldn't have been released to me.

I still can't sleep at night. This whole event is like being punched in the gut...........Thanks.......Mike
