They look pretty good actually, anyone looking with a passing glance would dismiss them as being proper calipers.

Replaced the driver's side wheel bearing in the front. And... didn't solve the issue. So now I'm assuming I should at least do the passenger side soon and see if THAT does it. Have a howling when turning to the right, while moving above 20 mph and the wheel turns more than just a few degrees. Signs seemed to point to the left bearing. No change at all, and definitely sounds like something coming from the right front. I'm going to swap tires left to right before, and see if it follows, maybe I just got a bum tire. Who knows.

But the left side went mostly without incident (unless you count the gash in my left hand from a grinding disc to be an incident, but there was no blood so I don't). The biggest issue I had was getting the inner race off the hub shaft (hence the grinder). Tried most tricks I knew but it wouldn't budge, so had to chop and chisel it to break it free. Otherwise, went well. Just wish it fixed my sounds

 

Ordered Bilstein rear shocks and some other stuff today, after I received a notice from the vendor they were back from out-of-stock.
Don't trust the old shocks after they let go on the front several weeks ago.

Yes will do it myself, an other crampy act in our underground parking garage.
Will follow blackonyx's way of lowering the frame, this seems to be the least stressful way to remove them, seems doable, albeit more work than the front.

Bought new roll bar bushings and links to finish up the front, and new donuts for the rear. Not sure how the old ones come out, but just in case.

My biggest worry is that the new shocks / bushes and the new donuts will screw up the ride height, but I will have to see how things work out.

 

Ordered the passenger side wheel bearing. Swapping the tires left to right made no difference (didn't expect it to, really), so it's the next logical step. Hope to get it under 2 hours this go round when I tackle it on Tuesday. Tomorrow, will order new brake pads and likely rotors, and do them at the same time.

Went out to leave work tonight, and the shifter went halfway through N and then just jammed tight. And then popped totally free of the assembly inside so it was just flopping about. Which meant the car wouldn't go in Park to let me get my key out, nor would it go into gear. Did you know that when that happens, the button on the trunk doesn't work? I didn't either lol. Got lucky that the dash button worked, and I had an adjustable wrench in there, was able to pull as much of the shifter surround apart and after some monkeying around, FINALLY got it to go into drive (though I had to hold it there to keep it from popping out). Of course my driveway is all mud so getting under the car to see the other end of the shifter cable is pretty much impossible for the near future. Time to start researching how to change that out, I suppose.

 

Indeed, she's purring ! Just a few minor things I want to address.

Shock Mounts (purchased yet to install).

Reassemble my wood on the dash as a creak's developed.

The AC's recently developed a ticking from the center vents, I'm hoping that's related to the dash noise. I removed the wood to install gauge bezels so I'm sure a refitting will remedy this.

Paint correction until my paint guy heals. I will document this w/ it's own thread & pics as it's a no loss situation because it's going into paint ASAP anyways.

 

Changed the transmission fluid today, not a bad job on the XJR. Only problem was measuring the level with the dipstick tool. I spent way too much time trying to read the level so I finally just measured how much came out and filled the transmission with that amount plus a little extra to compensate for any lost in 120k miles. The shifts now are so smooth and its quieter. I ordered a kit from FCP Euro that included everything needed, genuine MB filter and gasket, 5ltr Pentosin fluid, and the caps. Next up, changing the supercharger fluid and front shocks.

 

Installed the transmission I rebuilt. So nice to drive the girl again!

It really wasn't too bad...the exhaust was the worst part of the removal/replacement part. I used a kit from Cascade Transmission with their upgrade A drum. I used Pentosin fluid and shifts are a smooth as can be....

 

Well I finally found some bulbs for the J-Gate and have replaced them now,all went well with no problems so a big thank-you to IPC838 https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...cklight-75330/ and bdboyle https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...repair-174130/ for their guides on this subject,they were a great help,can't wait to see the j-gate all lit up as it should be on the drive home from work at 02.00 tomorrow.The only place I could get the bulbs from was Shanghai, China,had to buy 100 of them but only cost £8.00 so I have 98 spare if anyone has the same problem in getting them I have some spare.
Also picked up some Chrome mirror covers,not exactly what I was expecting but not bad for £24.00 off eBay.

Andy, any chance you can take some close up photos of how the chrome covers fit on the mirrors? Since they stick on top of the original mirror body with tape, I'm curious to see how obvious it is that they are an overlay especially around the edges.

I've been looking at these for a while, but was unsure if they would look relatively factory or not.

Well,I ordered them because they were the cheapest(that'll teach me,should of learned the lesson by now!)nowhere in the description did it say "stick on" although I should of picked up on the word "covers" I suppose,was going to send them back but the more I looked at them and put them on to see how they were going to fit because they are quite well made before actually sticking them on,anyway I thought I'd give them a go,I don't think they look too bad.
Weather's not too bad to be honest,hopefully get under the car this week to do a bit for cleaning,have started from the front and working my way back,have put couple of photo's on before and after shot's.

Yes of course no problem,tried to take good photo's sorry about the reflection in the chrome,hope they help.Also one of my j-gate all lit up after bulb replacement(did I mention I have a few bulb's over).Here's the link for the covers to see if they are the same as the one's you've been looking at,not sure if they would ship to U.S.A. though.

started to clean the muck out from the wheel-arch edges. Car's been in the dry since November. not much sign of rust but I guess Waxoyl is the best (got loads as ex Landy man)

Still not sure about the rims though...
