We looked at the R8 when we were at the dealership, wifey likes that too.

Again...as with most cars...pictures really don't do it justice. I agree the spindle grille takes some getting used to but it is the most integrated on this car. And the interior on the car I drove was pretty much basic, the full-leather version looks fantastic and would be the direction I'd go.

Still have 6 months to think about it and have already joined the ACNA to save 6% on a new Audi if I decide to go that route, I really like the S5 and the quality of the interior is heads and shoulders better than my F-Type.
I'm at a point in my life where comfort and luxury outweigh sheer performance, so a highly equipped grand tourer is what I would prefer.

Probably not considering retaining the Jag even though I love it a lot, the local PD here have a hard-on for it which has taken much of the spirit of enjoyment out of owning the car plus without the parking monitoring package makes it pretty tough to navigate I've come to realize.

Front end is tough to get used to, like Panamera rear. Did anyone ever stop have to consider the looks of our F Type's? I doubt it!

Geez, give the guy a break! No accounting for taste, I was cross-shopping against a Q50 hybrid! (Not as weird as you might think, only 20 fewer hp than a V6S.)
Serendipitously, I saw three LC500s in a row in SF Saturday, all emblazoned with "Gold Rush Rally." OK, just looked that up, $20K for a nine day rally... Yikes...
Also saw the engineering vid of the LC500 earlier today. Who knew the GS-F was that great?
But I agree, get what makes you happy.

I love the R8s and sat in a new Plus and standard a couple weeks back.

Odd comment I know, but the interior seems 'sterile and bland'. I feel the same about the 911 current interiors.

Haha you saw them? They started down here and I was able to see the takeoff. My co-worker took his Alpha7 GTR on it last year...it was fun but not worth the 20K.

I remember reading your journey from special order to the delivery of your F-Type. I also had the pleasure of making several fun F-Type runs with you in the Bay area. Hard to believe the end is near for your coupe.

I haven’t seen the LF500 in person. I don’t think it is as horrible as people make it out to be however it is not my cup of tea. Like the F-Type, I doubt you will see many others on the road. I looked at a GS sedan several years ago, but could not get over the Darth Vader front end. Not sure what Lexus was thinking because I do not think it appeals to the target market searching a Lexus, what do I know? Lexus sales were down 11.1% in April and down 15.3% April YTD. Could this be a factor?

I considered the Audi S5, BMW 435i, 640/650i and M4 convertibles before I test drove and became infatuated with the F-Type. The Audi would have been my second choice. Tough to beat the looks, fun and exclusivity of the F-Type, but there are many great cars out there and the S5 would be a good choice if you are looking for a 2 door.

Get what you like and forget the critics.

I'll have a word with them first chance I get John!

Happy to see you're alive and well and considering your wife in the matter of what to get (or keep) next. Fact is you surely do not need anyone's endorsement here and needless to say I - and everyone here - wish you luck regardless of what you choose.

And while I get how the F-Type might bring out the worst of your local law enforcement - the car isn't exactly a shrinking violet - I am also dismayed that that has to enter into the decision making process going forward.

Personally I love my F-Type far too much (never mind that it's just hunk of metal...eh, sorry, aluminum) to consider anything else; at least at the present time. IMO there is nothing else like it...

You'll figure it out and we'll all wish you luck and Godspeed. Like I am now.

Best regards,
Jay

I just want to say that I was eager for the LC500 to come out and saw one for the first time at a car show a few weeks ago. IMO it doesn't look near as good in person plus they are even heavier than our Jags which is just unacceptable to me.

Lexus Monterey is having an unveiling of the LC500 tonight so the wife and I will go check it out before we head off to dinner, I personally am really leaning towards the S5 because frankly, I love the interior and the infotainment and navigation, plus I like the idea it's all-wheel drive.

While I'm not ruling out retaining the Jaguar, I think I'm leaning pretty heavily towards the Audi.

I agree; I like lots of other cars. I think the current BMW's (particularly the M4 but the rest of the lineup is attractive too) are very nice looking. I also like most Mercedes with the SL63AMG being a personal favorite. Even the current 911's, though a bit bland, are very nice looking cars IMO. The only Audi I find really attractive is the R8 but the others are OK.....nothing Lexus makes turns my crank.

Personal opinion. In the looks department that Lexus isn't even on the same universe as the F Type. The Lexus looks like the old Kamanari fiberglass kits you could bolt onto Japaneese cars in the 80" to make them look "mean"

Not a fan of that car at all.

In the S5, does the dash mounted iPad like screen retract or fold? This is one design element that Mercedes and some others have not integrated into the dash. Seems out of place, kills it for me if it doesn't retract.

OP, I applaud your interest in the Lexus. Most of us want the hottest car on the road, the one all the other guys openly lust for; but, you're interested in a car with a personality. The one that never dated while in school.

I am also cross shopping (post below in April) and almost sold on the LC500.

Realize it isn't for everyone but neither was the F-type when I purchased (of course on this board that isn't the case).
