Why would you do this on the car? I mean, leaving the tire mounted I can see, but wouldn't it have been easier to pull the wheel, pop the center, and lay it on a bench?

Live in an apartment now, with no garage or work shop (I miss my fully finished garage, painted floors, work bench, cabinets, peg board tool wall etc. = sigh)
Nice paint job; Not a criticized, but I think it's easier and quicker to remove the wheel lay on a tarp on the side walk ( you do it on the out side any way!) rather than covering the lug nuts and the brake and parts behind the wheel, not counting the paint dust might fly up and get on the fender.
I agree, but then I could only do 1 @ a time, this way I did all 4 from one to the next to the next. When priming and painting in light coats, by the time I finished #4, #1 was ready for next coat.
