My center console lid (color Buckskin) is really cracked. I can't readily find a matching color, and local junkyards have had one jag in the last 2 years--wrong color.
Any thoughts about replacing it with a nice contrasting dark brown faux leather for about $8? I think it might look fine, and it would certainly stop being so annoying.
Thoughts? Opinions?
If I was handier, I would love to shape and lacquer a 3/4 thick piece of walnut to cover the console lid.
Go to an automotive (or furniture) upholster in your area. Select a matching piece of high quality vinyl. Have them reupholster it. Done. Or ask http://www.britishautowood.com/ to make a wooden one for you. Their work is excellent.

For $8, I'd say it's worth a try. The other options I can think of would be more expensive.
As I understand it, Buckskin color was less common than Biscuit, thus harder to find a good used one in that color. I'd try everydayxj.com first to see if David might have one.
If not, you could buy one in a different color and dye it to match your buckskin console and seats. Here's an example below on ebay for $45ish. A while back I bought a small dye kit for another Jaguar color and I think it was about $30 on ebay.
After going to Joanne and Hobby Lobby and another store, I realized Buckskin is a pretty odd color leather. Compared to most tans it contains some purple that's hard to match. I got the dark brown and finished it, and it looks pretty good.
The new console. The old cover. The foam underneath was in amazing shape.
