Thought I'd take some picture of what the factory AJ133 replacement water pump should look like. Higgins doesn't need one yet, but I Saw this one on EBay for a deal so I jumped on it and filed it under future projects.
Great idea - I got this same pump for mine and fitted it (just before the engine lunched itself).
I still think the design is appalling and really one of the worst bits of this engine - particularly the "plastic pipe and 2x o-rings" combo that connects the rear of the water pump to the (rather fragile) pipe from the oil cooler. It's nearly impossible to get it mounted correctly without leaks first time, not to mention how hard it is for those screws to take, AND the metal gaskets to be located properly. Basically the more you remove from the engine to improve access, the easier it is.

I'm glad you caught it in time and didn't incur further damage. Did you get any warning signs or messages, and can we assume you'll be doing one of your excellent step by step guides covering the replacement?
My 2012 XF PORTFOLIO is in for a water pump at just shy of 60k miles. Noticed slight smell of coolant and a bit of coolant loss in the expansion tank. Few weeks later the smell was stronger and coolant could be seen in lower portion of engine compartment.
Didn't take chance. AAA towed into dealer. Covered under the warranty that came with the car when I bought it last year from dealer. Also covered hoses. So no cost and a new water pump and hoses. Hope this last at least that long.
I will be replacing my coolant pump this weekend as well. Just ordered the latest version of the pump. This will be my 2nd replacement on my 2011 XFR. Had the 1st one changed under warranty at 15K miles in 2013 (pump part number is no longer valid - changed twice to the new one shown above). I have been monitoring the coolant temp with my OBDII reader and the temp is very stable at ~190F. Now I am out of the 5 year warranty and just turned 40K miles. Hope this one will last a bit longer. Thanks to the forum for providing excellent step by step instructions. Wish me luck
So,..Im next up with the pump replacement. Is it pure convenience to go with the OE pump? I have a pulley and tune - should I go straight to the Bosch? Also, this will come straight from my pocket - no warranty.

Verify it's a problem.. PRESSURE TESTING SHOWED IT WAS NOT JUST THE WATER PUMP
Analysis for a solution.. BIG FUN
Implement the solution.. STILL WORKING ON THAT
Review the results.. YEP
The water pumps bearing was on its way out but was not leaking, so that was a good catch.
