Ditto. today I installed an OEM XKR box in replace of the one I built. It is very quiet and it will kill your resonance because you won't hear it. Great for long days behind the wheel, not so much fun driving around town.

They are not cheap those brackets!
I will mount the OEM muffler when it arrives and see how mine sounds and take it from there!:-)

The brackets look like this. They mount to the bell housing and wrap around the cats. I don't think they would be too difficult to fab up if you have some basic tools.

The Jaguar part numbers for the ant-resonance brackets: C2P13477 and C2P13478 (right and left side - you need both.)

I hope this is helpful - these brackets instantly and completely eliminate the droning.
oops...just saw that kj07xk has posted the same information...

It would easier to make some brackets for the pipe near the catalysts, would that be sufficient you think?

Yeah. I think they chose the cats because they are right next to the bell housing bolts. Not a terrible job but you need to drop the exhaust to drop the down pipes and access the bell housing bolts. I would just mimic the factory stuff. I sold mine but almost wish I'd kept them to make patterns off of.

There is a thread here somewhere, where a member bought the brackets and posted a great drawing of one of them, so that others could make their own (think the other side was a mirror image, so only need to post up one).

EDIT: Found it:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-165469/page4/

May not have been a mirror image, but he didn't supply the other side.

Exhaust I bought was not for my car! It has the bend in it and they are of different length which I believe is for the 5.0

I checked the listing again and they state it's for the 4.2, have sent them a message so we'll see how they solve it.

Yes, different animal. Is it a four tip or two tip box?

Do you have the mid pipe too? I think they'll swap in as a pair.

Yes that is a 5.0L rear box

Providing you also purchased the 5.0 mid pipe as well from the wrecker it will bolt up to your downpipes.

If your using your existing mid pipe (4.2L) it will have to be modified or the rear box will have to be modified up to your exhaust guy

No, I don't. They have agreed to take it back.
Will try and find a 4 tip instead. Soon the car will be going into winter hibination and hopefully I'll find a 4 tip til spring. :-)

Yeah, 2 tip is Xk, different sounding box.

Might be worth spending some time sorting out a Helmholz resonator for your other mufflers. I'm working that way myself. Fascinating stuff and i hope it works. Google is your friend.

A calculator for figuring the volume chamber and neck sizing to eliminate the drone. You need to know what frequency ranges based off of the RPM when it drones. 2100 rpm x 4 pulses per rev / 60 seconds give the pulse per second, 140 hz.

When I look at your links I feel it's way out of my legue!:-)

On my loud exhaust the mini silencers have a nut welded on and a bolt is in place, anybody know what it's for?

I seem to recall some aftermarket mufflers that have those bolts, supposed to vary internal ports to change the mufflers sound. Might twist them and see what changes.

Found an XKR exhaust and it's on the car, It's so quiet in the car now!:-)
As mine is an XK I don't have the vacuum pump to operate the valves so I have set them on allways open and the sound is nice. I do hear a weak drone at 1200-1300rpm which I believe Jaguar made the extra mounts for but the drone is so low to me that I hardly hear it.
We'll see if I try to do something with the other exhaust as the sound outside the car is assume but need to fix that drone!:-)

Glad you solved your problem, but just exactly how long are you ever at 12-1300 rpms? You certainly aren't driving around town at that low a level without lugging the engine.

We have alot of 30km/h city limits, that's s when I'm in the 12-1300rpm. Don't know what lugging means but the engine has no problem cruising there. :-)
