Default Trial by Fire - Today's fun issue: Bearing split rusted to hub

OK Guys, I can't wait to look back on this and think "the next time I do this job it will take a couple of hours (instead of a couple of days!)"

I have gotten the ABS Ring off -- Yes bolting it to the tire/wheel and laying it face down makes a perfect template/vice.

I have pressed the hub out - I may post photos for the next first timer. It is far from obvious when you're trying to set up the press for this.

Problem: The outside of the bearing has (rusted?) attached itself to the hub.

I'm guessing heat, but it's been pressed on there with 6+tons of force. How would one get the reminants of the old bearing off the hub?

Photo of hub, silver is remains of the bearing!

Has anyone ever sucessfully used a dremmel to cut this off?

No I do not own a gear puller.

Thanks as always friends,

John

Use a small cold chisel and work your way round the circumference of the base of the bearing base to separate it from the Hub.
A bearing separator would be better and only cost about $10-15?

That is completely normal for the bearing half to remain on the hub.
I use a cut-off wheel on a severe angle and then a 'cold'chisel' to break/split the bearing ring and remove.
