So what was the problem? We always like to see a solution.

There is a spring clip that pulls out, don't lose it!

I replace the fuel pump, relays, and fuses. Then I changed the fuel filter and Techron to the gas tank and it worked. Does spring clip on the bottom hose just pull out? I never mess with one before. This has been an experience - if other out there no of anything else I can expect go bad on my 2004 S-Type 6 please let me know. I only have 73,000 miles on it

Glad to hear you got it running. What was the primary cause? Was the filter clogged? You had already worked on the pump, relays, and fuses in your first post.

I'd suggest cutting open the old filter for an inspection. If the fuel in tank was bad enough to clog the old filter, it may also clog the new filter, not to mention wrecking your new pump, too.

primary cause = fuel pump. the first time I put it on I had to spice the wires because the connecter was a little different so I used the one that cam with the ford fuel pump. It was getting power so I went got some piercing run & tap wire connectors and reinstalled and came up roses. kr98664 what other problems should I expect with a 2004 Jaq S-Type V6 with 73,000 miles?

Are you talking about suitcase connectors or Scotch-Locks like this?

I've used them for many applications with good results, but they aren't my first choice for a critical application like a fuel pump.

If just joining wires end to end, I highly recommend butt connectors from Ancor:

Products Ancor

You can get them online from many sources, including Amazon. If you have a West Marine near you, they carry them, too. Very high quality stuff.

Karl, when I become king my knights will show up at your doorpost to carry you away to prison. Those things (suitcase connectors) should be illegal!!!

I'd pronounce a scourge on the house of anyone who uses them...but then, they've already done that by said use!

Ha! Laugh now, backed by your army. I suspect you'll sing a different tune when your mercenaries desert you, trembling at the forces who will take up arms and torches to free me from your paltry dungeon, chanting "Thus always to tyrants!" and "Suitcase connectors are perfectly acceptable to use in non-critical applications!"

Consider the gauntlet thrown down.
