Are the OEM pulleys steel or ABS ?!

 

As far as I know, first year was "plastic", then they went steel.
I checked mine some weeks ago.
I have an upgraded steel one on my tensioner, but the idler is plastic.
Still looked perfectly OK though.
Waiting for the bearings as I have a steel idler pulley waiting.

 

I'm replacing both w/ the same pulley as recommended by the forum here. I found a E-Bay seller whom apparently has a warehouse full of "OEM Exact spec" for $10 a piece. I ask him if he knows if they are steel or ABS he just goes "the same as OEM" he has great feedback. I just don't want any cheap plastic that I will be replacing again in the near future.

I mean it's only saving me $20 so I'll probably just go w/ the trusted/known Dayco steel pulleys.

 

I am not sure if it was related to Dayco, but I read that people had problems installing one of them (think the idler) due to the difference in the OEM design between the two.

I never put the two together to compare them, but you better google a bit .

 

Its been a couple years, but I'm pretty sure mine were steel.

 

I have researched, it seems there were issues installing the bearings due to one having a lip & the other not. I haven't heard any negatives about the pulley install as a whole.

 

It is easy to judge, even installed; The plastic ones have ribs to support the center, where the steel ones are flat.

 

Good call ! The EB cheapies have no ribs, I'll give them a shot thanks !
