I'd buy used and live with them or get refinished instead of paying 5K. That's insane.

In general we have a moderately small yearly CO2-derived vehicle tax per each car one owns (466€/$575 for a 4.2 XK) That in addition to mandatory insurance comprise the costs of just the ownership. A car can be temporarily decommissioned from traffic for 10€, making it exempt from the vehicle tax for the duration. Likewise, the insurance will be somewhat cheaper on a decommissioned car. Thus, you could have two cars and only keep one in traffic at a time.

I have a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2. Winter tires are mandatory, and thus everyone here has either studded or studless winter tires, mainly of the "nordic" sort. Studded tires may only be used on specific months, as they cause more wear on the roads.

I'd assume that very few people here have a second vehicle specifically for winter. Cars are expensive here, and any modern car will easily negotiate most winter scenarios, unless you need to drive on unplowed roads in the countryside or such.
As such, it's more common to have an enjoyable old summer car than a dreary old winter car.

My wife and I each have a good Occasional Car, my XKR and her RX350. I have two pickups for 'normal' and she has a hybrid Ford Fusion for whenever and commuting. Our kids have an old Taurus that we bought for them to use when our daughter's husband thought the bright red "OIL" light meant that he should have the oil changed 'eventually'. He drove it for three weeks like that, until the noise became so bad he was scared. Our daughter checked it for him and immediately went to an Auto Zone or wherever, and they added over FOUR QUARTS. Yeah, that car hasn't moved in almost a year now. They still owe a couple grand on it, which is even worse.
Oh, and I also have a couple "Play" cars, a Pro Street Mustang II and a blown 95 Mustang GT. And a bike.
Wow, way too much information. Sorry.

No No No, you can't finish that paragraph with "and a bike", unless it's the pedal kind. So not too much information yet. What kind of bike?

1998 Honda Magna. It's in perfect shape, only has like 8,000 miles because it sat for awhile with ethanol-caused gummed up carbs.
Not my picture, stolen from the Interwebz. This one has the Honda sissy bar and rack, I built my own which looks MUCH nicer.

Ditto. Also don't be afraid to pick up something from an XF or XJ. I'm running '14 XJ Toba's on my '07 XKR and they have done well.
