Got this car home last night. Will replace my wife's s type as her daily driver. It's pretty clean with only 89,000 miles and she is very happy. Couple of questions...The air pressure light is on and air pressure monitor system fault message on constant. I looked at the valve stems of these 19" wheels and from what I understand, the rubber stems would indicate the wheels are not equipped with sensors. So I guess the remedy is to have sensors installed if I deem that a priority, but if I don't care about having this system active, would there be adverse effects if I just pulled the fuse for TPMS? Would doing so eliminate the fault message and light?
I read the obd with my Torque real time scanner and found no faults, but the evap monitor is not complete, and after driving the vehicle for about 60 miles, the monitor "secondary air system" changed to incomplete, but still with no fault codes. Fuel trims look ok...stft hovering around 0 and ltfts fluctuating around negative 5 - 0.
The car was purchased from a mom and pop used car lot and I was aware at time of purchase that the evap monitor was incomplete, but since it has been smogged and the car with low miles and very attractive, I took a gamble on the evap. I'm hoping that the monitors are incomplete due to inactivity and that they will complete with a few cycles, and that whatever is preventing them from completing will not result in codes soon. Fingers crossed.
If it's disabled you could go into limp home or reduced power mod...NOT FUN.
Thanks for the tip on the sensors. I will give them a try. On other note...I keep hearing/seeing that the XF is prone to a lot of electrical glitches. As I stated we die just pick this one up and it is beautiful and fun to drive, but coincidentally, the interior dome light seems to have a mind of it's own. Sometimes while driving the driver side dome lights up by itself and if I tap it a couple times it goes off, and the passenger side is also doing it at will and randomly. Any hints on that? FYI, the secondary air system readiness monitor completed today, leaving just the evap remaining. I take that as progress.
The front dome lights playing up is a very well known XF "foible", they pretty much all do that after a while.
The easiest fix is to replace all three globes/bulbs with LEDs, and adjust/clean up the sockets/plugs while you are at it. By this I mean the electrical connections, once you have the globe/bulb holders out you will see what I mean.
It's not hard to remove the whole console from the roof, just look for a couple of small "slots" on the back edge (rear of the car) about 1" in from the corners and lever away in those spots with a trim removal tool or a flat blade screwdriver (best to wrap in a soft cloth), then once you have the back edge of the console about 1/2" down give it a good old downward tug to unclip the four strong metal mounting clips. Once the console is out of the roof just unplug the single wiring plug, and take the console to your workbench. The three globes/bulbs are in plastic globe holders, turn each one about 1/3 of a turn (can't remember which way now) and they pop out, then simply pull the globes/bulbs out.
Replace the stock horrible yellow and faint globes/bulbs with T10 wedge 5W5 LEDs, literally millions of them on Fleabay.
You can get multichip SMD LED or Cree or COB (Chip On Board) in pretty much any colour you can think of, but IMHO and after trying everything COB is the best with Ice Blue in the middle light (closely matches the Phosphor Blue interior light scheme) and bright white in the two outer reading lights.
Also consider replacing the two globes/bulbs in the rear console as well. They don't act up as much as the front ones but they are also a horrible sickly yellow. Same with the footwell lights!
