Hi,

I have read through many of the CTEK (and other brands) Battery Maintainer Installations here and they started me down this road, thanks to everyone for that.

I originally had mine hardwired in basically following the factory guidelines but was never satisfied with having a loose CTEK Comfort connector laying around in the trunk or spare area. So I devised a new plan.

I thought it would also be handy to have a Power Point in the trunk area. I also wanted it to match the factory Power Point in the Glove box so I ordered new factory parts to mimic this in the trunk area. It would have worked out and I even had a factory 3 pin connector left over from my F-350 Dually so I could make a factory harness connection. That would have worked perfectly but I made a change and mounted it lower than I originally planned and checked clearance for. Others will be able to do it that way if they chose, just mount it about 3 inches higher than mine. I didn't want to deal with patching the hole so I checked my Offshore Race boat parts and found a new Blue Sea Systems Power Point that was much shorter than the XK version. Sorry for the rambling about this, just don't want others to follow my location exactly. I will also note this later below.

Hopefully the pics will make it self explanatory..

1st step is to remove trunk panel, battery panel and then the left side trim cover. All very easy to do.

Using a CTEK (56-382) Comfort Indicator Eyelet for M8 Top Post Batteries. I carefully inserted the positive eyelet through the factory insulator boot of the remote start terminal. I mounted the eyelet ends to the remote start terminal and a nearby factory ground point.


I then cut the connector off the end of the 56-382 and crimped on insulated spade connectors with heat shrink for the Power point connectors

Then I partially reinstalled the side trim enough to reach connectors and installed them on the back of the Power Point (sorry for blurry pic)


Next is finishing the reinstall of the side trim and now you can see the unobtrusive Power Point.


Now when ever you want to use the CTEK you plug in the "CTEK (56-870) Comfort Indicator Cig Plug". Of course you now have a fully fused on all the time Power Point for many other uses. It can also be used with a small 12v Battery to keep the computers happy whenever you need to unhook and/or remove the main battery.


OH, VERY IMPORTANT!! If you decide to do this mount yours 2-3 inches higher on the panel to avoid a large ground stud that is located directly behind where I have mine. I made provisions to mitigate any issues, but it is not optimal.

Looks like a nice clean install. I have mine so I don't have to open the boot, but it's not as clean an install as yours.

 

Thanks! Yeah, I started with one on the outside, but bending down to hook it up is challenging for me on most days, long story.

 

I didn't want to open the boot to plug it in so I used a waterproof marine socket and mounted it under the center rear. Easy for me to plug in as I normally park the car on my lift so no bending over.

 

This is my install. Very similar.
