Hi, I started my double six for the first time in a few months today, charged the battery for a few hrs via an old trickle charger after a fail start and once she popped and farted into life, no windows or sunroof.. Can anyone please help? 🙂

 

Clearly no electrical supply to these via the relevant switches, so you need to check the fuses and if OK, trace through with an AVO meter and with the electrical diagram in front of you.

 

Hi and thanks for your reply I can't see a fuse for the windows listed. I've checked both footwells and the box on the wing under the bonnet... Can't find a fuse marked as purely for the windows and roof 😏

 

Is this a Series III DD6?

First thing to check is that the lock-out switch hasn't been inadvertently flipped....as that'll knock out all windows and sunroof simultaneously. The lock-out switch makes/breaks the ground circuit for the window-sunroof relay.

If the switch has been flipped then I'd suspect the relay itself. I can give some EZ tests if you have a test light or meter

Hi Doug, yes it's an 89 series three V12. How do i find the switch and reset please?

The lock-out switch is grouped with the sunroof and window switches, directly above the sunroof switch

Hi again, forgive my complete ignorance but a switch suggests to me I can "switch" it back on .. ? Do I just remove the facia and switch it back after a clean of the contacts please ?

 

Yes, it's an on-off switch. Whatever position it is in now, just flip it opposite....and see if your windows come back to life. If not then you probably have a dead relay....which some testing would confirm.

Cheers Doug, and these switches are to be found nr the fuse box in the left footwell, behind the trim? That video states vehicles upto 87. My car is an 89, will they still be in that spot or ?

Ah, I see yes I'm aware of that switch Definitely not that. I was about to look behind it. I thought that that only isolated the rear windows... I'll go look for the relay tomorrow I'm overthinking this, apologies

it's called a "Valet" switch, or "Master" switch.

if it becomes disconnected, it will prevent windows and sunroof from operating, two wires connect to it, if either wire is disconnected, it is the same as if the switch was in the "valet" position, i.e., OFF.

 

Agree, it is worth opening the console and checking out the switch.
Just jumping the contacts may cause the operations of roof and windows to return. thusly convicting the switch. Remove it, open it and clean it or merely leave it out of the circuit, as many do.
