This little coolant hose (it connects in to the hose that goes back to the overflow tank) broke while doing my Y-pipe upgrade. There's nothing special about the little hose, is there? I just want to confirm that I can just replace it with a short length of the right size generic coolant hose. Thanks!
I had much the same problem a few years ago, this hose cracked/split and started leaking coolant.
Not in the same spot as yours but further down the hose, where the two thin pieces join.
Replaced the offending hose piece - the shorter/upper piece in your pic - with a piece of generic rubber hose cut to length and held on with hose clamps.
Worked for a couple of weeks but that piece then split and started leaking even worse than before.
Attempted a repair using RTV sealant, tape and a hose clamp, worked OK for a week or two but then started to leak again.
Repaired a second time taking more care and the repair held for a few weeks.
I was hesitant to replace the entire hose with a new one despite a new OEM hose (all the way to expansion tank) being quite cheap coz I was afraid I would botch the job.
Eventually bit the bullet, bought a new hose and had a go at fitting it.
Turned out to be much easier than I feared, went without a hitch.
This was few years ago now and the new hose has never leaked a single drop.
Moral of the story - don't waste your time trying to repair the broken hose just get a new one and fit it!
I think that is very good advice! Just replace the hose. It's old and decayed at this point. Consider your car is now 10+ years old. Time for all the coolant hoses and coolant to be replaced. They will start failing one by one.
Do you plan on keeping the car? If so start doing some cooling system maintenance and maybe use some of the metal parts like the front pipes and the rear water manifold. Stuff like that.

I agree, do not patch it, it is an inexpensive part US$49-59.00. Replace it with a new one. I think that it is part number T2R5910, but check with your year/model to make sure.
I’ve not removed my SC so I’m not familiar with the hose set up below it. My question is, with a endoscope can the hoses be viewed without removing the SC? 07 4.2 SC thank you.
Your car and engine are much different from an F-Type with a 5.0L engine. I would post in the right forum to get better answers.
But the 4.2L SC under SC hose is well documented and a very common (Almost 100% guaranteed to fail?) failure.
No point in looking at it. Plan to replace it along with the many other hoses the 4.2L SC has. I think on my old 2005 STR there were 23 cooling hoses! Yes I replaced all of them eventually. That's why I posted above to plan on doing things all at once. Instead of doing the labor over and over as the hoses fail one by one. It's time to bite the bullet and do some maintenance!
