I hope that it is just a test mule, otherwise the "DUH" number plate will be horribly appropriate.

Yeah that's a test mule. It's a current XK body that's been shortened to fit on the prototype car they are testing.

It really gives you no idea what the final result will look like.

Sounds like a supercharged V6 to me, but hey I've been wrong before

That's what it sounds like to me as well. Pretty raspy, but nice, especially in the upper rev band.

Hi Richard,

That may be for all markets. The European market will likely get the bio-diesel but the North American market will likely get only the V6 and V8s. The electric variant may be a couple of years off from the initial release of the car, but that's just a guess on my part.

Update from 1 Aug 11 leftlane news.

2013 Jaguar XE

Power for the base model XE is expected to come from a supercharged V6, which could produce up to 350 horsepower – but given Tata’s use of Ford-sourced motors, we wouldn’t rule out the possibility of an EcoBoosted 3.5-liter V6 with power in the same realm.
A mid-level model will check in with at least a 385 horsepower version of Jaguar’s 5.0-liter V8, while a 510 horsepower supercharged V8 will be reserved for the range’s top billing. A hybrid model is also rumored to be in the works – but likely several years away if it comes to fruition.
The interesting engine would be the eco boost IMHO. This has 365 hp and is a turbo. It has the potential of putting out well over 400 hp with modifications.
