Fender trim on the JAG Pics
I know there is a lot of opposition against these trims, but I can not help myself that I kind of like it on a XJS, perhaps because of the chromed window frame.
Can't deny there is a whole lot more chrome on these cars than just those trims

My 97 XJ6L came with those when I bought it. Kind of flashy but I like the look. Plenty of polished stainless and chrome already on the car. Looks pretty good on your XJS. Actually they kind of flow into the chrome bumper caps.
Not oil, don't know what it is. It was on there when I got the car and have tried to clean it.
Sorry should have added that it looks like nice car too..Glad its not leaking nasty stuff,
Although I like the small leaper my minds not made up about the wheel arch chrome. Mine has wire wheels so most probably would be far to much chrome if together.

Either way, a beauty, no question about it.
If I have a vote, which I don't, here is mine:
1. Aye on small leaper.
2. Nay on wheel arch chrome.
Kinship:
My XJ wuzza six wears a set of lattice wheels like those. Look great there and look great here...

Had a hard time deciding to put it on, looked good both ways. I wanted a leaper but have to drill a hole in the hood "bonnet" don't know if I want to do that. In the US we call it hood. lol
I have that problem too now and again...
when the neighbor lets their dog off leash while out for a walk...
nothing and little soap and water wont fix...

Jaguar didn't put any side trim on the XJS that is either PO installed or dealer installed. Jaguar never put a Leaper on one or fender trim yet people insist on doing it. Unlike the other two the side trim can actually provide some benefit as to protecting the car from a door ding. I find it kind of curious as to your disdain for the "cheap" looking side trim yet have an affinity for what I consider "garish" fender trim. Not trying to start anything, just a curious observation. Different strokes as they say....
Watch out on the trim. I think that the dealer pop riveted it on, so will leave a few holes in the bodywork.
My leaper uses the same holes as the growler so it can be inter-changeable.

The metal cased trim is usually pop riveted, the complete plastic trim is usually glued or 3M/Scotch double stick taped on. A good hair dryer/heat gun, heavy monofilament line and some goo gone will do the trick.

Leaning towards chroming.

There was a long thread on this awhile back. My car has chrome Dayton wires and the chrome fender flares, AND the plastic/chrome side trim (all from the PO, who was the original). All 3 times were "dealer installed accessories" that she paid dearly for...
After having lived with the car for a couple of years now and deliberated, I'm going to remove all of it and return it to a cleaner, stock/less flashy look.
I do believe my fender flares are riveted in, so there will be some paint and body work involved there. Most likely a project for a couple years down the road. But pretty certain at this point its the direction I want to go in.
All comes down to personal preference, of course. Oh, and no leaper, thank you.

I would love to have your wire wheels.
Mac:
Those "cycles" are beauties. Two HD's in this neighborhood.
One almost if not all, stock in looks and noise. OK, but, just
not quite right.
The other, noisier and driver/rider to match. But, alas, he did himself in. Why, I've not the slightest. Lost a good neighbor....

They are both 1999 Honda Valkyrie Interstates. The interstate was made in Marysville,Ohio USA and only 3 years 1999--2000 and 2001
The valkyrie Standard and tourer were made 1997 thru 2003 and only made in Ohio, USA
Very rare is the Valkyrie Interstate with (reverse) it was only made in Japan.
A new Valkyrie F6B in 2014 but looks nothing like the original. Most say the new is ugly.
