You're having the gremlins! Is your battery going bad?

They start getting weird little glitches when the battery isn't right. Do you have a good battery you can swap in temporarily to check it?

Yes got a good one in there now. The boot has not really been shutting properly adjusted the striker got a firm close now and boot ajar light is off. Could have been the boot light running down the battery.

My first suspicion is that the actuator has seized or the linkage inside the door needs to be adjusted and lubricated. Somewhere in the photo albums at the Jag-Lovers forum a member posted photos of the inside of the actuator and how he was able to revive the tiny motor by cleaning and lubricating it. He also found a source of replacement motors.

The linkage tends to fall out of adjustment or the threads in plastic connectors strip or the connectors break.

Another common problem is that the plastic trim along the top of the interior door panel warps over the years and causes binding between the door lock button or plunger and its chromed plastic ferrule. You may be able to tell if the ferrule does not sit squarely around the button or plunger. If it fits around the button at an angle, it may be part of your problem. If I recall correctly, to remove the ferrule without breaking it, the interior door panel must be removed so the lock button can be pulled out of the ferrule before you push the ferrule up and out of the door trim.

Cheers,

Don
