Default Advice/Support Request on 1999 Jag Daimler Super - RESOLVED

(Ignore my XJ6 in sig - Sold)

Hi All

I have a Super v8, which has been stood for about 3 months now. The reason it is stood is because it has reached 110000 miles, it is still on traditional hardware. Meaning the tensioners weren't done, neither was the water pump.

Just before I stood it up, I started to hear a very odd sound coming from under the hood.
Also, the heater started to make a very very strange noise, like something was stuck on the fan and it was making a tat tat tat tat tat noise.

This was around November time, when I wasn't around much either so just parked it up.

I now need to get this sorted, so Im looking for advice. What would you do? I have found a place that can do tensioners and everything else, like gearbox oil change,
super charger super charger
belt change, car service, MOT.

Im in Leeds and they are based in Sheffield (heard of Powerhouse, anyone?)

Im not entirely sure whether I should charge the battery and what to do next. Any advice step by step appreciated.

I presume I will need to turn it on to put it up on a transporter. Im afraid to drive it in the event something happens to the chains.

Kind Regards

DO NOT start the engine without checking the tensioners!

Flat bed or tilt and slide recovery trucks have winches to get disabled vehicles on.

I would be inclined to disconnect the fuel pump relays so that it cannot be started by lazy drivers.

Thanks

I will not start the car

Any information on what I should get replaced, what the parts are called please so I can scout the NET and buy them?

The tensioners is not a problem, its other stuff like "hoses" and "wells" I don't know about these.

Thanks

The primary and secondary timing chains, guides and tensioners must be replaced. It may also be a good idea to replace the water pump and thermostat at the same time. If the plastic thermostat housing is seeping or cracked, as they are quite prone to do, you can replace it with an aluminium one instead.

If you take the vehicle to a Jaguar specialist, they will be able to advise on what other parts may be needed, such as coolant hoses and the like once the vehicle has been inspected. Additional items may be needed to pass MOT.
