Is there a way to get a copy of the original paperwork/bill of sale, for a Jag purchased in London in 1964, from Henley's Jag Distributorship? Are there archives for things like this? Or maybe the Department of Motor Vehicles. I'm in the U.S. and don't know where to start.

From a time long before computerised records, there is no chance Henley's will have retained copies of original paper invoices. In any event, our Data Protection Act prevents them from releasing such information.

DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) maintain registers of drivers and vehicles in Great Britain. When vehicle registration was transferred to DVLA from Local Authorities, an electronic database was setup holding minimum details and the original paper documents were destroyed.

JDHT (Jaguar Daimler heritage Trust) will be able to provide a copy of the original factory build sheet for the vehicle:

Jaguar Heritage. Heritage Certificate

JDHT hold this data regardless of where the vehicle was first marketed.

If the vehicle was first registered in the UK, you may find some basic details on the original owner from DVLA but they can be 'difficult' about releasing data.
