Question Newbie on site with a dilemma !!

Hi all....I'm a 41 year old 'young' in the head kind of guy from Derbyshire in the UK who has admired Jaguars since being a kid!

My dilemma is do I change my daily car!?

Currently run a 2001 Lexus IS200 Auto which is a lovely smooth silky 6 cylinder motor, which just lacks some pace and does about 25 mpg. My daily commute to work is a round trip of 20 miles on basically dual carriageway.

Have been looking at XJ6 Sports and XJ8's but would mean me getting a slightly older vehicle for the same money that's in my Lexus.

What kind of 'real world' miles per gallon would I get from the Jaguar?? Thought I'd ask the owners and see what they thought!! Are they reliable enough too?

Any help or opinions would be appreciated as to sway my decision or stick with my Lexus !!

Thank you all in advance !!

Welcome to the forum. I am 42 years young and have only had my Jaguar xj8l for just over a month. Its almost my daily driver. I usually ride a Ducati Supersport but when the weather is too hot, too cold, or too wet I use the car. Seems to average about 2 days a week in the car and 3-4 on the bike. My previous car was a Hyundai Accent that got about 29 mpg. My '99 xj8l gets about 18-20 with mixed driving. About 1/3 less than the Hyundai. If I had to rely completely on the Jag it might hurt the wallet pretty bad as my daily commute is 25 miles each way. But since the Ducati gets about 55 mpg and is ridden slightly more than the Jag is driven it helps offset the difference.

Reliability, I cant say much yet since I have only had the car a month. So far so good though and it just turned 124,000 miles on a road trip yesterday to meet up with a friend. (averaged 23 mpg on mostly highway trip)

I wanted one forever and so far I am soooooo glad I bought it. It is like no other car I have driven and I love it. I say go for it!!!

Am a newby here too though not to jags, just bought a 96 3.2 sport and there is nothing else like it to drive as an all rounder. Someone else answered perfectly when another poster was concerned with mpg, hit the nail on the head when he said 'smiles per gallon' is whats most important Maybe go test drive one or two to compare to your Lexus see how you get on? Reliabilty as above have only just got mine, but has fjsh and done but 81k. Would say same with any car really depends how its been looked after and how you yourself look after it. So go for it you will be glad you did..
