Default Whirring sound in 2011 XF

Dear all, there is a constant fairly quiet whirring sound on the passenger's side of my 2011 diesel V6 XF. It stops if I turn off the climate system. Does anybody know what it might be, and especially, is it anything to worry about?

Thanks

Worry if it stops working.

Thank you Graham! That's, quite, reassuring! My wife finds the noise irritating, however....

Check your vent settings. If any are just open, it can seriously increase the noise level from near silence through to a distinct and especially annoying whistle.

Thanks for that. I'll have a look. By vent settings you mean those strange pop up vents?

Yes - I was thinking of those eccentric rotating vents.
