Default Transmission Fault

Every now and then, my check engine light will display "Transmission Fault:, there will be a hard jerk, but I can drive. I usually pull over and turn the car off and then turn the car back on, the check engine "Transmission Fault" is gone and the car runs just fine. This has happened more than once, but never more than once a year. Is this something I should be worried about. I have an experienced mechanic, and his shop works on only European cars. I had both from and rear end parts replaced with OEM parts and a transmission fluid change, the car has 108K miles. Still I am concerned. Should I have the transmission and the gear box checked? Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Thanks
