Rotten sills (USA=rockers), are a commonplace fault on the X type and found in all countries which are cold and wet in winter, and especially where road salt is used liberally. Due to the use of a plastic outer cover, the rust remains undetected until it is really bad, and structurally dangerous. I have personally seen new sills being installed on an X-type in a local shop I used to use for servicing my X350, Unfortunately they ceased trading over three years ago.
Later model years of X-type were better as far as I know but I don't know when that year was !
