I think several should check this out!

We also need our Annual St Helens Drive on the calender. I would like to see a mid month date, so can i get feedback on 12-13,19-20th preferences?

Richardx308 06-10-2014 03:06 PM

I would be interested in either one of those two weekends

KenAdamson 06-10-2014 03:40 PM

Is this the St. Helens drive?

I can do either 19-20 or 26-27, it looks like.

I stay off the road Independence Day weekend, so not the 5th-6th. I think I can make the 12th-13th. I cannot do the 19th-20th. nor Sun. the 27th, but am probably OK Sat. the 26th. I hope I don't have to miss this 2 years in a row after participating in the inaugural in 2012 (on the infamous "goat track!").

Wow, You keep killing me with your dates Swimref....

In truth, this is the 3rd Annual St Helens Drive, of which you and I have judiciously attended the first two! This year is the eastern (Windy Ridge) entrance.
Can't promise no goat paths on this one either as I cater to the majority..... (Which when it comes to Jag owners will probably mean no goat paths..... sigh...)

The route will begin early in Enumclaw, and traverse Cayuse Pass (410/123) to Hwy 12.
We will head into the mountain at Randle, where I would hope to pick up any folk coming up from the Portland area.

Bump.....nice one Vince, hope you get some good numbers

If you want any help in promoting this, I'd be happy to help, please let me know.

Best

You guys gotta quit with the annual drives. I can only make so many stickers!

CleverName 06-11-2014 12:14 AM

Sorry Muddy, you set the precedent with the Leavenworth event, so we gotta ding ya for that one! Do you have a date preference for St Helens??
So far we are tied out at 2 yea's each!

July 12th-13th x2
July 19th-20th x2
July 26th-27th x2

Appreciate the help Jim.... I need a date, and I may try for the banner if it is available.... If I can just lock this down a tad....

So here is a rough itinerary, leading to one question about departure time from Enumclaw. 8AM or 9AM?

  • The drive from Enumclaw to the lunch area on the mountain is 4 hours, which includes many stops for vistas and photo-ops along the way.
  • I would like to allow 2 hours on the mountain for lunch and basic exploring.
  • The return drive via Morton and Elbe is 3.5 hour with basic stops.
  • Parting dinner in Tacoma
A 9AM departure means a 1PM lunch (folks tend to get a tad grumpy), and a parting dinner around 6:30.
A 8AM departure (folks tend to get a tad grumpy) puts lunch closer to noon, and a parting dinner around 5:30.

I feel 8AM works the clock better, but I will defer to the majority.

Thoughts?

I'll be there whatever time is decided, but can't help but ask why when we start from Monroe, Lynnwood, Kingston, or other somewhat northern locations it is usually 9AM, but when it is way the xxxx south like Enumclaw or Tacoma it's 8. Makes for a killer day when you have to start driving by 6AM or earlier.

Yeah, I was there last year, guess I was thinking of a different drive I had to miss. Every drive is good, love them all. I will have the Jag with me in Yakima the 18th-20th for meetings I have to attend. I should be done there about noon Sunday, so if the majority votes for that day I may be able to meet you for the drive home from Mt. St. Helens. Would prefer the 12th, 13th, or 26th.

Hence why I am asking... I never intend to "dictate" a drive, but try to find common ground for all. As with this event, I just lay out the estimated timing, and try to slide hours about to see what fits for meals and breaks. Past runs show that I am always overly optimistic on our return times, and we seldom meet schedule there.

Also 9AM in Monroe put us in Leavenworth at noon, and eating dinner at XXX by 6 or 7 in Issiquah.

8AM in Tacoma put us in Long Beach (and Astoria the year before) at 12:30

If others want a 9AM launch for a 1PM lunch and 6:30 Dinner then by all means say so! I'll do it! I want the group as a whole to have a great day!

I'm always up for a later start, even if that means a later lunch.

I don't have a date preference at this point. All are open right now. I've never been to Mt St Helens, and I'm excited to see it.

July 12th-13th x3 (Richard,Swim)
July 19th-20th x3 (Richard, Ken)
July 26th-27th x3 (Swim, Ken, Muddy)

We need more drivers!

Muddydog 06-16-2014 03:30 PM

Looks like July is out for me. Possibly the 27th, but all other dates got filled with work and out-of-town company.

Looking like the 26th so far... ("Swimref gets two votes on this one! hehe!)
Richard, Any chance you can make that day work?

Just began ownership of a 1988 XJS H & E V-12 Lister 62,000 miles on it. I am not real good with etequite, so correct me if necessary. The vehicleis beautiful, but has fuel tank vent problems, anyone know the best dealership to have this remedied, as I understand it to be a recall without owner or mileage/time limitations?

Welcome to the forum! Lets hope someone steps up and gives you the tips you need. Sadly my car still hits the dealership in Fife as it is all warranted, so my independent dealership is sorely lacking.

I hear good about Park Place... Anyone else got tips for Bobby?

Dont forget to check out the section dedicate to your model car as well.... You will find lots of good folk there with serious knowlege on DIY stuff!
