Default May meet and drive!

Well, let's get a start on ideas for May!
Some here may recall that last year, I drove highway 410 the weekend after they opened Cayuse Pass. It was certainly a memorable drive that others expressed interest in, however exact dates for DOT are unpredictable. I think this route is best held in a "spontaneous" mode for now.
Any other ideas for May that we can place solidly on a calender?

Thanks for the bump Jim....

So lets see.... May Weekends:

3rd-4th
10th-11th (Mothers Day)
17th-18th
24th-25th-26th (Memorial day weekend)
31st

If I were stabbing at a true "May" drive, then mid-month is the wandering target.
Saturday the 10?
Saturday the 17th?

Still thinking hard about a Rainier Loop if 410/123 opens up to Whitepass.

DOT always shoots for Memorial day weekend to open the Pass (last year it opened before the 11th). IF they were a week ahead this year it could be a great drive! (I would not want to drive Memorial Day weekend just for the traffic!)

Weather and Pass fail could divert us to something like Ocean Shores?

Other input?
Come-on gang... Let's hammer this out!

Wow, let's not swamp the PNW forum with ideas!

Something shorter?
Port Townsend/Fort Warden?
Check out a few aircraft museums at Paine Field?
Back roads run out to the SatSop Nuclear Plant?
loop some of the farm lands south of Oly?

Ideas? I'm itching to get some Cats together in May, but might have to go host a drive on Markos Meetup site if I don't see a hand or two raised soon!

Anything I can do to help, please let me know.

I can do a forum mailshot for you, the only issue is how many have put their location as PNW, Pacific Northwest, Wasshington etc etc.

Always happy to help

Good luck

Bueller....

Just kidding. I can't think that far ahead. I'm wondering if I may go to the Chateau Ste Michelle thing with ERTC on Memorial Day. Probably not, but just thinking.

I will want to go to ERTC again soon one way or another.

Definitely doing the St Michelle thing again this year. Wife loved it last year.

I'm sorry I've been absentee -- we've had a string of funerals to attend and some home repairs that have been swallowing weekends. /facepalm

54 members over there as of today. You may bite off more than you want to chew.

(*edit: but it was a blast.)

I agree on both counts...
The all Jag venue is more relaxing yet provides those various injections of high speed fun tossed in the mix... Along with a manageable size.

Meetup was great fun, but we got lucky that we didn't loose some of the lesser cars or lesser skilled drivers to a accident. Further gatherings there will need to control the pace better.

No May trip ideas from anyone yet?

Hey guys,

I'm in for a May drive!

Regarding the Meetup Group, I hope to see some if you again! We can restrict attendees easily, it's an option when setting up a meeting. Also, the speed of our last drive was mostly between Vince and our R32 fan. ;-)
(Except for Muddy spinning around on the parking lot, lol).

Cheers!

Ah yes...... Muddy attempting to "nuke" his tires at the mothballed nuclear power plant. I don't believe I have ever seen an "isn't this fun?" expression turn so instantly into one of horror when his XK filled with smoke and he thought he had set the car on fire. Luckily we found no sign of open flame and he aired the car out so well Chrissie may never have known. That was a very fun but gruelingly long drive, at least for an old fellow like myself. I'll be ready for the next one, of course. A final thought. Now that we have sampled Muddy's hospitality, can we have more events begin and end in Kingston?

Aww, come-on Marko... You know darn well that if you were on my bumper you would have been wondering why I was goin so darn slow! At least I know your car is maintained, and capable of actually battling the sweepers safely, unlike several of the other cars in that group...
Now that you have that Passport Max, you can bet your going to take point a tad more often too!

I think we should shoot for a drive up mountain loop road on the 17th...

It is an in and out run, and relatively short, but it looks scenic....

Thoughts?

Looks interesting. Part of it is unpaved. I don't know what to make of that.

Well, so far, a May drive looks to be a flop.... I'll still light the Jag, but I wish others would get involved....

As for Mountain Loop Hwy, I saw it as interesting, and one I had never been on.... I was just planning on driving to the start of the dirt road, and turn around there for an easy "in and out" drive. Maybe a burger or such in Granite Falls.
The one problem I now see is that thanks to the 530 slide, Darrington folks are now using the gravel road more than ever to get to and from their community.... Meaning abnormal traffic...
Didn't think of that in my original thoughts...

I'd go on a Mountain Loop Hwy drive! No "off-road" for me, though, so turnaround where the gravel starts...

Even with the extra traffic, it should still be a nice drive - AND, it's up in my neck of the woods (Snohomish County).

I'm game for Hwy 410 as soon as it opens over the pass as well. Weekend of the 17th might be just right for that...

WooHoo Ken!

17th would be real close to the 410 opening, so maybe we can keep close tabs on that for a last minute shift in plans? Or hope for the 24th... cause Memorial day weekend is the one to avoid....

Looking forward to cruising the byways with an S-Type!

Fingers crossed!

Well folks, I have tried to have this drive out there long enough to give everyone a chance to speak up with ideas, or mark their calenders far enough in advance to join in. Response from the masses has been disappointing so far with only one brave soul willing to dust off his baby and turn her loose to frolic in the hills.

The original route (Mtn Loop) should be simple, and time involved relatively short except perhaps for a sit-down gathering over a burger or pizza lunch. (I could use some help there, because I know nothing of eateries in the Granite Falls area or nearby...) https://goo.gl/maps/23mbh

If we cant get a few more Jags out of the garage, I can offer up the event as a generic drive for other makes and models (maybe Euro cars?) just to fill out our numbers a bit more?

Lets see some raised claws out there to join in!

-Vince
