Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Positions or Michelin Pilot Super Sports
Time to replace 19" Eagle F1s on the 2004 XJR. Narrowed the choices down to Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Positions or Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Not going to track the car, but would like plenty of stickiness when needed. Comfort and noise also a concern. I have a separate set of dedicated winter tires/wheels...so weather not an issue.
Anyone run any of these tires on an XJ? Thoughts?

If your pockets reach the PSS without flinching, they are the better tire of the two.
That said, I have the S-04's and love them... My prior two tire purchases were Bridgestone RE-11's, which would easily eat the Michelins and the S-04 for lunch in shear grip, but road noise, ride comfort, and rapid wear were the trade off. I changed down to the S-04 to gain a lower noise level, with as little loss in traction as I could afford to loose.
The Bridgestone's were also about $400 less for the set of four at the time I bought mine, and although the Michelin's are better, they are not $400 better.

If you have the funds, Michelin Pilot Super Sport is the right choice, whether you track it or not. They are perfectly quiet, smooth ride, I have had no flat spotting after sittng for weeks like I had with Dunlop and Pirelli. IMO it seems that higher performance tires are more resistant to weathering and age cracking than touring tires. Maybe due to the softer rubber compound. I had Eagle F1 tires on another car, they seemed to wear out too quickly for my taste although I liked the tires overall.

Thanks for all the input! I decided to go with the SuperSports. The Michelin rebate helped the decision also...
Very happy with the tires so far. Only a few hundred miles. But night and day difference between the SuperSports and the old F1s. Smooth, quite and not a bad looking tire to boot!
Probably could have chosen a longer lasting tire (SuperSport All Season), but I have dedicated winter wheels/tires for the few times I take out the car in the winter. And only driving it 4-5K a year, the SuperSports should last a while.
