Default Hankook Ventus V12 or Falken 452?

I'm looking for feedback from anyone that has experience comparing Hankook Ventus V12's with Falken 452's. The user review I see for both are consistently excellent, and the price between the two is similar. The treadwear for the V12's is 280, and 300 for the 452's, but my understanding is that those numbers are really only useful when comparing tires from the same manufacturer. If indeed I can get get a bit more life out of the Falken's then that could justify the extra $15 per tire I'm looking at. I know it's a bit of a longshot, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has had both on the same car in order to make a direct comparison, especially regarding wear.

I drive a 2006 XJ8 VDP with 255/40-19's in Arizona (hot!) about 1000 miles a month, with a pretty even mix of highway/street.

Thanks!

In my experience, when Falkens start to get a few thousand miles on them the road roar becomes really bad. This has happened twice on two separate cars. I'll probably never buy Falken again.

I've been super happy with the Hankooks I've had. Take a look at www.gripston.com for Hankook tires - they will deliver with no shipping fee, no tax.

Midlife- Thanks for pointing me to the thread in the XK category. Perfect!

Shady- Interesting about your wear related problems. That's the problem with so many of the reviews out there. Most I see are based on less than 5000 miles.

and don't forget the little rebate they throw your way... $50 makes for a nice dinner with the significant other.

I agree. The road roar on my Falken 452s is unbelieveable. I have 2 of them on the front of my 05 XJR and a nearly worn out set of Pirellis on the rear that will need replacing soon. As much as I would like to have a matched set of 4 Falkens, I don't think I can stand that much noise.

BTW Consumer Reports rates the Falkens very high and the Hankooks very low. Road & Track or Car & Driver (I forget which) rates the Hankooks very highly. Go figure? Who knows What the hell to do?

The noise is very much road surface related. We have a lot of macadam (asphalt with small stones) roads around here and they are hell to drive on noise wise. Pure asphalt is a delite and concrete is just okay.
