Default Max Performance Summer vs. All Season Tires

My new to me ‘15 XKR, needs new tires. It takes:
Front: 255/35ZR20XL
Rear: 285/30ZR20XL

I’ve done extensive research, primarily on Tire Rack, and have narrowed it down to two tires. If I go with a summer rated Max Performance tires, the highest rated in this category is the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. Whereas, the highest rated all season tire is the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus an Ultra Performance Tire

The biggest downside of the Michelin summer is that they should never be run or even stored in below freezing weather. Also, they have a lower tread life warranty at 30K. In my experience with Michelins is that they don’t make it to the warranted treadlife, and you end up getting a not so great prorated replacement. I live in San Diego, so below freezing temperatures is unlikely, but I guess they could be encountered for a short duration on a fall trip.

The Conti All seasons are the highest rated all season Ultra Performance tires. They have a longer life than the Michelin summer tires, which usually means a harder tread compound, and stuffer structure…which coorelates to a rougher or noisier ride. I think…And the Contis don’t have the issue with below freezing temperatures. And, I’ll never be in snow, slush, or ice.

oh, yeah, I won’t be doing track days, but will be doing spirited twisties. And price is not a factor.

So, what are your experiences with the above 2 tires on an XKR? Oh yeah, I don’t care to consider other than the 2 above tires.

Here’s the TireRack consumer ratings.

Well, I just order new tires, and new TPMS sensors for my new to me beauty. Buying from Discount Tire, which now owns Tire Rack. So, same tire prices as Tire Rack on line. Decided on Sorrows Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. Except the OEM rear size 285/30ZR20XL is on long order time, but 295/30ZR20XL are in stock…so, that’s what I’m getting. With all the add ons they were pricey…

But, even with an overcast drizzly day, it was a great ride to the tire store. I’m loving this car. Can’t wait for a nice day, with the new tires, for a top down ride in the twisties. Oh yeah, and did I say it sounds great?

Well, they are installed. Went one size over in the rear as the OEM size was on back order.

I now have Several hundred miles on my new kitty paw pads. I haven’t pushed them very hard, nor ridden in rain. But, So far though I’m very pleased. They have a very nice ride, fairly quiet, and well balanced steering.
