Default 03 Jaguar X Type 2.5L Key Stuck in Ignition

Last night i went into the gas station and left my car on, then when I came out the car was stuck in park, i tried to move it into reverse and it stripped out of park, ever since then i have not been able to take the key out of my ignition because i dont think the car recognizes im in park. Also i can shift gears without the car being on or my foot being on the brake. I can go into any gear! If someone can please tell me whats going on id appreciate it!

Just a guess, but something to check.

Look at the linkage, something could be bent, broken, or maladjusted.

Default Key Stuck in Ignition

There is a park position sensor/switch in the shifter.
When not in park detent, a solenoid on the left side of the steering column is energized, preventing the ignition switch moving from
position I to 0. The switch can be moved from I to II to III.

The purpose of the solenoid function is to prevent leaving the car parked in any position other than park.

If the park sensor is out of adjustment or otherwise not functioning properly, the solenoid may be de-energized by disconnecting a terminal on the battery.

When the solenoid is de-energized, the key may be moved to the 0 position, then removed.

While this doesn't fix the problem, it provides a "work-around" until a repair can be made.
