Default 2001 jaguar x type 2.5 lambda sensor

Hi all could some one please tell me the location for the lambda sensors on my 2001 x type 2.5 sport. As some one has hooked a lambda sensor under my bonet to nothing i mean its just cable tied on to the wiring loom. There are two wires coming from the lambda to a plug on the bulk head next to the coolent bottle. however the are also two wires that have been cut so a total of 4 wires .

So im thinking that a lambda has failed some were and the previous owner couldnt get it out so he has just bunged any sensor on and cable tied it on under the engine covers.

Also the car did not missfire when i brought it home. Only after i washed it, So i suppose bucket of water and lambda sensor dont go well.

No volunteers with a solution yet so let me throw this in to start the discussion:

With a sensor hanging under the bonnet and a pair of cut wires, I'm surprised it's even running.

Getting the codes read would be a good starting point to see just what's been going on.

thank you very much i was shocked when i saw it as welll and to think it drove home ok (80 miles). and was even good on fuel. My plan of action is to have alook at all the sensors and make sure there all connected im expecting one not to be as its under the hood then buy a new 1 and hook it up. And if it does not run right then take it to have the live data read. I also am not having a eml fault light on the dash.

Abit of an update iv just got in from having another look the wire that were cut and joined to the lambda under the bonit were BLUE SOILD and WHITE / GREEN. I removed the lambda that wa just cable tied on to the loom. and joined the wires back to the gray connecter.

But the missfire is still there not on tick over or whilst reving at a sand still only when the engine is under load. Also i still do NOT have an engine light on the dash. I have hooked a live wire tester up and the blue wire seems to be pulsing fine in time with the engine.

You don't have Item 7 (Engine Malfunction lamp) lighting up at all?

All Jaguar models initiate a three second indicator lamp check when the ignition is switched on. Exceptions to this are the Airbag light remains on for six seconds, High Beam and Indicators are excluded from the check.

Your MIL should illuminate for three seconds during this check. If it doesn't, either the bulb is gone or someone has been deliberately interfering with it.

Abit of an update for any future readers to remove the rear bank sensor 2 with the black plug is NOT easy the inlet madifold has to come off and a breaker bar will be needed with lots of force. But it can be done.
