I have a 2002 Jaguar x type and one morning i went outside to crank it and nothing. almost as if the battery was dead. so i looked under the hood and i have a battery tester and the battery is perfectly fine. the starter doesnt turn at all when you try to crank it. just the relays make a small clicks. i have tried to hit the starter. nothing. i jumped the starter and it just spins like its not hitting the fly wheel. its not throwing the gear out. i swapped the relayes. nothing. i don't know what could be wrong. please help

 

Wish I had a solution for you - I'm replying because I have the same year and model AND the exact same symptoms - I had run out of gas and for a few days the car was not turning over as readily ( although it always started ). I thought perhaps the fuel injectors were clogged so I put some ZMAX in the tank and thought all was fine - last night and this morning, car wouldn't turn over at all with the same symptoms you described - hopefully someone can help us both out!

 

Without knowing more I would still say its the battery. I know when mine bit the dust there was no warning.

 

Thanks AlfaDude - I thought ( think ) it may be the battery also although there is a charge - instrument panel and warning lights on and in order - relays click and nothing - very consistent - was able to get it started once after many tries and then nothing since

 

I had the same problem just a few weeks ago. The battery tested ok, but the car would only turn over with a jump from the wife's Escape.
After a new battery it's as good as new.
