I’m new at this, so please forgive me as I really don’t understand what I’m doing.
I have a 2003 Jaguar X-Type 2.5l 5 speed manual. I took it to Autozone where they read the codes and discovered code P0191. They suggested this was a fuel pump, regulator, or rail pressure sensor. The car seems to have a hard time starting when it’s cold, however when it’s warm it starts right away. When driving it runs well up to about 3,500 RPM with no problems. However it becomes somewhat sluggish above these revs. I’m just after some advice or confirmation that it could indeed be the fuel pump or regulator as I’m short of cash at the moment, and I’d rather not diagnose a problem by replacing parts. I’m not sure what to do. I’m also told that the fuel pump and regulator are one unit – is this correct? Advance Auto has quoted me $380.00 plus tax.
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

nilos, sounding like the fuel pump is starting to go. Humor me and give this a try. When you go to start the car first thing in the morning, turn the key to the RUN position (do not start the car), let it set there for 5 seconds or so, then turn it to the START position. Does the car seem to start easier? If so, then that is pretty much confirming the fuel pump starting to go.
If you want to connect up a fuel pressure gauge, I can help you with that. Not sure of your mechanical ability.

Hi Thermo,
I am going to rent one tomorrow pretty sure u hook it to the fuel rail screw. If not correct ME Please let me know and what will I be looking FOR. I would guess 40 to 50 psi. Also car will start fine sometimes and run like new other times it kinda dies on me but after restarting it will run fine for a while I always figured when a fuel pump goes out it goes out but I guess maybe not on a jag.
