2004 X-type 3.0 engine parts identification

2004 X-type 3.0 engine parts identification
I was checking under the hood, trying to track down a trouble code P0171. There were a few components on the engine I'm not familiar with and hoped some one might fill me in.
First, just behind the air filter box sitting on top of the engine is a smaller black plastic box that has a fitting that goes into the side of the large bellows coupling to the intake manifold. Is this some kind of filter and does it have to be serviced periodiclly?
Second, there is a 3/8 inch vacuum line that is plugged into the bellows coupling next to the above mentioned fitting. This line seems to go toward the firewall but I can't tell where it terminates. I tried doing a vacuum check on the line but it won't hold vacuum. Can someone tell me what is the purpose of this line?

I will take a picture and post it soon. The line I was describing plugs in to the bellows coupling right next to the resonator connection. I was suprised that I didn't get more responses to my post. What exactly is an intake resonator? Its after the Mass airflow sensor so does air flow thru the resonator or is it just an additional sealed chamber?
Ok, now I know exactly what you're talking about, but I am unsure where that specific line goes. All I can tell you is that it's not a very common vacuum line to have issues as most P0171 codes come from either the IMT o-rings, brake booster hose, or the PCV valve and old hose style like you have.
As for the intake resonator, it essentially just makes your intake a larger volume. This is supposed to have some sort of an effect on noise, but I noticed nothing when I deleted mine, but it seemed stupid to me, so I still took it out.
