2005 x-type overheating
I just purchased my 2005 x-type jag.. Having a problem with overheating. If I let car idle for 20 minutes it will overheat. And if I get into traffic stop and go the engine overheats. Not leaking any antifreeze.. When the car does overheat I put the heat on high and it usually brings the engine temp down. Could it be a sensor? Thermostat? or possible water pump.. And when I have the air conditioning on, the engine fan does work..

ditenorio, GO Buckeyes!!!! Sorry, fellow Ohioan here.
As for your problem, if you are not having issues on the highway, then this will pretty much confirm that your problem is your fan control module. These are known for failing on our cars and initially, what you will see is the inability of it to keep up with the cooling needs in stop/go traffic or just sitting.
The check that I would tell you to do is to open the hood of the car, start it (preferably with the motor cold) and then kick the A/C on high (fan on maximum speed, the coldest temp you can get). This will force the fan on to max speed. Now, get out of the car and lean over the radiator a little bit. Are you getting a nice gentle breeze on your face or are you getting a hurricane on your face? The gentle breeze is bad. That is essentially saying that the fans are not getting full voltage (ie, the controller is not doing its job). If you are getting lots of air flow, then odds are your problem lies in the water pump and you will need a new water pump (ie, the fins are slightly worn and they are not able to develop sufficient flow at idle speeds, but once the engine gets up in RPMs, it can).
If you need any more help, let me know.
