Default adding an amp and subs to factory radio

hey im looking to add my system into the 03 x-type that i just bought. i have a 12" L7 and a 600.1 kicker monoblock that i want to get in the trunk. i am an MECP certified installer so know how to install this, but i wanted to get some insight from others hopefully.

where did you connect the line output converter in this vehicle? I know in other vehicles, you can just connect the sound input leads to the rear deck speakers. obviously the x-type only has the door speakers. i have a factory navigation unit and was hoping not to have to remove that to check for speaker wiring. even though its a pretty basic sound system, i would think there'd still be some external factory amp somewhere.

any help would be greatly appreciated. i am planning on researching this while working out in california this week and installing it when i get back home to michigan next weekend.

Thanks all!!!!

I have an 03 X non nav and tapped off of my leads running to the sub under the rear deck. But I eventually popped out the head unit and ran my cables to the trunk. However if your system has an amp its located behind the shroud on the drivers side of the trunk.

it sounds like you have the premium sound system in your x-type. i dont have a sub in mine. i just have the 4 door speakers. im trying to avoid having to go to 2 door grommets to get the speaker wiring since I wouldn't be able to tell the wires that were for that speaker.

thanks for the info.

Getting thru those grommets is impossible too. It appeared to me that the door harness plugs into the pillar and you would have to pin out a wire to go thru there - or drill out a passage. Either way, I would recommend pulling the radio - it is a lot easier than it looks. Check the FAQ's lots of step by step's in there. From there run the rca's to the trunk - trust me when I tell you... Plus there is so much room behind this radio - it is a please to work on it. I have the wire colors in one of my posts. If you can wait until this evening I can look it up for you - let me know but if you search some posts it may come up. I wasn't the author but it was my post in a thread.

its really not a huge rush right now...I am leaving from Detroit Metro (home) to California for the week for work so I won't even be doing this until this weekend when I go back home. I will search this week to find the instruction on radio removal, but feel free to post it if you run acrossed it. I was really debating it, but the 4 door speakers really just isnt enough for me lol. 1 12" L7 won't be overdoing it either, so I know it will sound pretty solid.

Thanks again!!!!
