Default Advice Sought : New Brakes for X-Type?

About to order EBC brake components for:
Jaguar X-Type 2.5SE Saloon (2001)
Car has now covered 70K on original discs and is used everyday for commuting and general road use (under normal driving conditions). I intend to keep this car for the next few years.
I want to use EBC components but require your advice before confirming my order.
I have decided to opt for 'Green Stuff' pads (all round) and want to replace all 4 discs too.
I don't know whether to replace these with 'Standard' EBC discs or upgrade to EBC Turbos. If so, do I replace all 4 with turbos or just the front ones and standards on the rear? Your advice is much appreciated...

Hi kenzed and welcome to the forum.
Re the brakes on the X
I've just done mine a few weeks ago and replaced them with EBC Redstuff NOT greenstuff. As you may be aware greenstuff are now factory fit from the OEM, Redstuff is the upgraded versions and I and plenty of others have fitted them.
As for the rotors - I also bought from EBC but went for the plain discs / rotors, due to finances. I have also serviced, taxed, bought and refurbishing new alloys as well as looking at the mesh grilles so money is somewhat tight....lol
However, money no object, I would have deffo went for the slotted grooved dimpled rotors
The car is my wifes daily driver and the brakes were teribble[&:].....now, after fitting Redstuff pads and EBC plain rotors? Absolutely fantastic!!!! A really noticeable difference
All round for the set of rotors the difference was approx £100 so its your call.
Whatever you decide to go with, I'd say stick the same all round.

If you're ordering from EBC direct, type in scooby58 at the checkout for a nice 15% discount

Good luck

Jim

JimC64,
Thanks for the warm welcome and in particular for your detailed response.
Today, I spoke to EBC technical department to raise the above questions too. I have been advised to opt for 'Redstuff' and 'Plain' rotors (all round). I was told the turbo discs can be a little noisy, offer little improvment to overall braking and are more cosmetic than anything else?
Ihave now ordered as per their advice(via EBC Direct) and yes - thanks for the promo code

What, you mean I wasted my money on 4 turbo grooved discs[:@]
Only joking,,,,from experience they look good and perform fantastic. They can be a little noisy (like a helicopter blades slowing down type of noise...at times...occassionally...now and then....sometimes) but the confidence of knowing they are going to work makes up for that especially compared to the Jag brakes which were on beforehand and taking my life in my hands every time I used to use them before I changed over makes me glad I did................and relax.

Kenzed.....you're welcome mate.... its what wer'e all about

Buck............lol...........you never wasted your money, they do look great. I'd love em too. But as I'm spending so much on her at the mo the extra £100 was better spent elsewhere.
Between a service, EBC brake pads n discs all round fitted, 4 replacement alloys, products to refurb same, Road Tax, Leather dye, wheel caliper paint and dust valve caps!!!
I've just spent around a £1000[&:]
SKINT.................All donations gratefully received

Yeah lol you mean this forum isn't paying you enough?

Time to ask the higher in command for a pay raise!

Yeah I was going to say buck that they 100 pounds was definitely worth just the look! As long as they stop just as good as the others....they should help way more than the regular as the whole idea is to dissipate the heat which is deadly to brakes...get all of those gases outty!???

Maybe in a state[&:]
It'll be 2.5 years before the I change cars for (guess what.....) another X type. The estate may be the one when the time comes....perhaps even the Sport Premium or one with lots of extras so I dont have to start adding them in one by one.

I didnt know they did a 3.0V6 Arden estate to your spec Buck?
Careful there though mate........you'll be wanting to buy a caravan and fit a tow bar as well! Automatic?

Having said that, my A6 was in the garage yesterday and they gave me an A6 2.0 Diesel Auto with the flappy paddle gearshift too
I had a lot of fun with it I can tell you, just a shame it wasnt the 3.0quattro[&:]
On Friday I get the New Mondeo Titanium X Auto Tdci.
Cant wait
